    3. This message is from your TNWARREN list administrator. Greetings, As you know, or should know, I am death on commercial postings to this list. It is the quickest way to get unsubscribe and blocked from this list. Still some things are OK to be published here. I received a query from a subscriber re a posting, "[TNWARREN] Prominent Residents of TN," and posted by one of our other list subscribers, Patrisha Goodwin. Patti had simply forwarded a URL (not hers) about an available book. http://www.scutfamilytree.com/tnbook.htm I am sure that Patti's posting was strictly a public service posting. It was entirely acceptable that Patti had done so. My authority over the posting ends here, however, some questions were asked of me so I will offer some additional comments. The webpage for the book gives a surname index for the book, and a link to eBay were the book is being offered until 18 Feb 2003. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2910996047 The owner also states: "Interested in the photo of your ancestor? Interested in the bio for your ancestor? Contact Me" My correspondent did just that and received an answer from a Susann Swain. Ms Swain offered to fax some info for free, and also included this: "Otherwise - I can either e-mail or use regular mail to send you the biography and the title page of the book. I am looking to marginally cover my costs for the time (and possible postage) that this will require, not to mention the cost of the book. I am charging $5.00 for email and $10.00 for regular mail delivery. I accept paypal or you can send me a check or money order." Ms Swain appears to be a regular eBay seller (with a very good rating). That is probably why she can accept PayPal. Her asking for a fee in advance is just plain good sense. Asking for a fee to cover costs is prudent. While many of us TNGenWeb folk freely provide services, we do it because it pleasures us to do so. Internet genealogists have come to expect a free genealogy cyber-lunch. Nobody is required to provide freely, time or postage. About the book. This book may be available at TSLA. If so, and if you wanted some page copies, you would need to pay in advance for their services. Since the book was published in 1923, it could still be in copyright, provided that the publisher renewed the copyright in the 28th year after the original publishing date. If that is the case, it could not be re-printed without the permission of the publisher. To see more on copyright, see this page: http://www.usgennet.org/usgnhome/copyright.html Fred Smoot

    3. I have in my own resources 3 vol's of "Tennessee, The Volunteer State 1769-1923" It also has pictures and I will be happy to look up, for free information that anyone is looking for. However, I would prefer only one name at a time. Sincerely, Billie Faye Vaughn At 01:49 PM 2/11/2003 -0800, you wrote: >This message is from your TNWARREN list administrator. > >Greetings, > >As you know, or should know, I am death on commercial postings to this list. 3. Fred, Thanks so much for understanding. I never meant to send anything to promote anyone, since I find it deplorable. Patti
