Bradford DATE: Friday, 10 February 2006, at 9:27 a.m. San Antonio, Texas Friday, February 10, 2006 Off and on for the past five years I have been researching my wifes (Penn) and mine family history. While Ive made good progress on mine, my wifes has hit a stumbling block. The Penn great-grandfather is James Penn, age 32 in 1850, of Warren County, Tennessee. The 1850 census for the county shows him in Civil District 9 with his family. He indicates he was born in Virginia. In 1854, Wanda Gants Tax List shows him but without any taxable assets. The last census that shows him is that of 1870, still in Warren County, Tennessee. Interestingly, there is also an Elizabeth Penn shown in the 1850 census for Warren County. Elizabeth, age73, also from Virginia, is living with her sister, Fanny Mason, age 65. (The 1820 census for Spotsylvania County, Virginia shows an Elizabeth Penn as head of household and the hash marks indicate that one of her children is a male under 10 years old.) While we think the lady is James mother, we have no proof. By the 1880 census, Frances Permellia (Garretson) Penn, James wife, has moved to the settlement of Bee Creek, Texas (no longer there, and the cemetery where she is buried is abandoned) just west of Waxahachie with the younger children. We are trying to gather additional information on James Penn and what happened to him. I suppose Permelia either tired of his act or he died. I have been anxiously awaiting the cemetery projects completion for the Warren County page on the tngenweb.org to determine if it was the latter. Does anyone have information on him and when/where he died? *************************************************************************** This is an automatically-generated notice.
