Genealogy We are the chosen. In each family there is one who seems called to find the ancestors. To put flesh on their bones and make them live again, to tell the family story and to feel that somehow they know and approve. Doing genealogy is not a cold gathering of facts but, instead, breathing life into all who have gone before. We are the storytellers of the tribe. All tribes have one. We have been called, as it were, by our genes. Those who have gone before cry out to us, "Tell our story!" So, we do. In finding them, we somehow find ourselves. How many graves have I stood before now and cried? I have lost count. How many times have I told the ancestors, "You have a wonderful family; you would be proud of us." How many times have I walked up to a grave and felt somehow there was love there for me? I cannot say. It goes beyond just documenting facts. It goes to who am I and why do I do the things I do. It goes to seeing a cemetery about to be lost forever to weeds and indifference and saying, "I can't let this happen." The bones here are bones of my bone and flesh of my flesh. It goes to doing something about it. It goes to pride in what our ancestors were able to accomplish, how they contributed to what we are today. It goes to respecting their hardships and losses, their never giving in or giving up, their resoluteness to go on and build a life for their family. It goes to deep pride that the fathers fought and some died to make and keep us a Nation. It goes to a deep and immense understanding that they were doing it for us. It is of equal pride and love that our mothers struggled to give us birth. Without them we could not exist, and so we love each one, as far back as we can reach. That we might be born who we are. That we might remember them. So.we do. With love and caring and scribing each fact of their existence, because we are they and they are the sum of who we are. So, as a scribe called, I tell the story of my family. It is up to that one called in the next generation to answer the call and take my place in the long line of family storytellers. That is why I do my family genealogy, and that is what calls those young and old to step up and restore the memory or greet those whom we had never known before. -Author Unknown ______________________________

Carol, I found none of these names in the Warren Co., Heritage Book. . However, I did find a George B. TUCKER (1922-1995) mar. in 1941 to Ruby Pauline TRAVIS (1916-1986) in the Coffee Co Book. One son Dale GeorgeTUCKER (1951- ) Detroit, Michigan. Wife Diane Peoples. There is probably 300 TUCKERS (or more) in Coffee Book. |In the Grundy Book, there is one mention of Rev. Clinton Tucker. That is in the article submitted by myself !!! My Dad, Harvey Haskell SUMMERS aka "Tucker" was b. DeKalb Co., TN 1888. There was a circuit riding preacher surname TUCKER. As a small boy, he would take my Dad on horseback to the various preaching engagements. |Harvey became known as "Tucker" or "Little Tuck". I believe the preacher to be either Clinton, Sr or |Jr. |I didn't follow thru. I had found them in the Coffee, Warren areas, though. Clinton is on the Warren Co Tax List. What say ye???? Betty "Don't believe so. Those books, and others like them, stay in the genealogy dept. and are not available to be taken out of the libraries. They are each $70'ish, and ordered from their respective county. I have all 3 and will be glad to do some look-ups for you. Betty" For everyone's info, I did some searching and I believe that the Coffee County Heritage Book may be available on microfilm. I'll check some more. As for look ups, I really would appreciate it. I have at least two, maybe three Clinton TUCKERs. I'd sure like to sort them out. The oldest one I can confirm was born in 1789, NC and was a Methodist Episcopal preacher in Warren Co TN. His brother should be George B. TUCKER father to Martin Rufus TUCKER, also Methodist Episcopal preacher. The third Clinton Monroe W. TUCKER b. 1839 Warren Co TN m. Lee, I know you will be very pleased with your Warren Co., Heritage Book. There are many TN counties that have books recently published by Walsworth. Grundy, Coffee, and White to name a few. You will find address, phone # and e-mail address to Walsworth Publishing. They will give you a list. Then you can order from individual counties. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Lee Todorovich" <LeeTodo@comcast.net> To: <TNWARREN-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, March 04, 2006 12:45 PM Subject: Re: [TNWARREN] Phillips or Cobb Families > Thanks Betty.......Can you suggest any ways I might get more information > on these families? Got this from one of my lists. Interesting Patti http://archivegrid.org/web/jsp/index.jsp The Research Libraries Group has launched ArchiveGrid. "ArchiveGrid contains nearly a million archival collection descriptions held by hundreds of libraries, archives and museums." "A search result page includes a list of archive collections, a summary of the archives and archive locations that are represented in the collections, as well as a search box that enables the user to limit a search to a particular date range, an archive and/or the location of the archives. The description of each collection includes a title, the name of the archive, and some brief information from its description. Each entry also shows the users' search terms in context. The user can discover what archives have material on the topic by reviewing the summary of archives and archive location. Researchers who want more information about the archive or who want to contact it can click on the name of the archive in the collection description. The archive's name is linked to the ArchiveGrid database of archive information." Access is free until May 31st. http://archivegrid.org/web/jsp/ index.jsp

Cecelia, According to Kristi Moffitt in the Warren County Heritage Book, " In the 1860 census, George and Sarah Grizzle are boarding Mr. James Arnett, MD., who is 26 years old. Their youngest daughter, Zany is now 15. That year Zany and Mr. Arnett married, which marriage proved to be short lived. Either Zany died very young or else divorced, since James is listed with a new wife and children by the 1870 census, and Zany is not found". The Grizzles attended the Short Mt. Meth. Church. Hope this helps.
