Jenny, You might check newspapers in the areas you are researching. I have located numerous accounts of my ancestors going back to 1794 which has been great because there where courthouse fires. I know there are prison records for TN but they only list the crime and victims are not named. Those you can find on the TN state site. If you do locate where your ancestor was murdered then there would be accounted in the newspapers which are on microfilm. You can get them sometimes through an interlibrary loan. Also check with the LDS they may have them on microfilm also. Once you locate the county where he was murdered check with the chief of police or sheriff's dept. to see if they have any records. Good Hunting Patti

Looking for information on : Would like an Obituary/any info on: Name:Noah Smith SSN:411-12-6827 Last Residence:37110 Mc Minnville, Warren, Tennessee, United States of America Born:28 Oct 1880 Died:Sep 1967 State (Year) SSN issued:Tennessee (Before 1951 ) And any information on: SAMUEL SMITH BORN 1842 IN TN HE MARRIED MALVINA STEEL AUG 24 1870 IN DEKLAB ALABAMA, AND HAD TWO SONS JAMES WILLIAM SMITH, AND NOAH SMITH. THEY LIVED IN SEVERAL COUNTIES IN TENNESSEE, MAINLY MARION COUNTY. THERE ARE NO RECORDS I CAN FIND ON Samuel.YET....I HAVE HEARD A COUPLE OF STORIES OF HIM BEING MURDERED IN TENNESSEE SOMETIME AROUND 1911. I KNOW HE LIVED IN THE MOUNTAINS....BUT THERE IS NO OTHER INFORMATION. Thank You Very Much Tammy
I don't know anything about the family you are looking for, but here are some suggestions. Write the County Court House where he got married. Ask them for a copy of the marriage license or bond. List his full name, the brides full name, and the date they married. If you know their ages you can list that also. You can find out the cost, which is usually nominal by going to that states web page and searching through till you find the cost for your county. Do you belong to Random Acts of Genealogy Kindness? If so you could look up the County in Tn. that you know he lived in, and surrounding counties. After you get that info, if there is someone willing to do lookup work, you could ask them to search for a murder about your date. If there is no one listed from RAGK, then you will have to dig into each county and find which ones had newspapers during that time. You could write the paper, and see if they have archives on line, or would look for the murder for you. Also look for Funeral Homes. A lot of them have all the records, and most are happy to give you a copy of any record pertaining to your relative that they have. You could also write Tn. State Archives, and ask them to do a search for you for the date you have listed. They will want as much info. as you have, name, dob, dod, wife's maiden name etc. etc. There is a fee for this, which is listed on their home page. Be sure to ask for a certified copy and that they list the cause of death. If you don't ask for the cause of death they won't list it on the Death Certificate they send you. Hope this helps some, Good Luck.
