Hello List, I am searching for Hubbard S. Fergusons burial site. died around 1853 or 1854. He lived in White Co. in 1850 but his will in the settlement book in 1854 in Dekalb Co. and no sign of a grave. If someone would not mind checking and seeing if he is listed in Warren I would appreciate it . He lived there at one time. thank you C.J. Williams

Hi Folks, I'm looking for info on Ansel Melton an early settler to Warren Co. of 1807 and he died in the newly formed Cannon Co. in 1842. I just posted his Will to the Cannon archives He is briefly mentioned in a book done in 1838, called "History of Cannon and Woodbury" does anyone have this book? I'd like to know what it says. TNWARREN-L Greetings all, We now have a new mailing list to accompany TNGenWeb's soon to be "Sickness and Death in the Old South" project. OLD-SOUTH-BURIALS. A mailing list for anyone with a genealogical and/or historical interest in the burial practices in the old south (United States), including disease, monument typology, grave stone types, the culture of death, folklore, and old time religion. It is a public list. But it is not for cemetery queries. In our list name you see the words "Old" and "South." We define "Old" as starting with the mound building period, passing by 1585 (Roanoke) and on to 1920 (post-1918 influenza pandemic). Our "South" starts in Maryland (south of the Mason-Dixon line), moving west but keeping south of the River Ohio, crossing the Mississippi to include Missouri, then south into Texas, east to Florida, and finally, north to Maryland. This covers many years and one large chunk of real estate and it will allow us to cross state lines to study the movement of southern burial customs. Our European American ancestors faced shorter life spans, higher rates of infant mortality, and produced a significantly higher percentage of orphans than we see today. They brought to America their religions, burial customs and unfortunately, disease. Those diseases had a dreadful effect on our First People (a.k.a. Indians). All the above will be part of the list subjects. Our special interest is the box tombs, tent graves, and gravehouses of the old south. These monuments often occurred in the Appalachian Mountains and Cumberland Plateau regions, and especially the piedmont areas. Help needed! I was told by the Magness Library back in 1990 that a Mrs. Betty Majors was compiling a book on cemetery records in Warren County and hoped to have it done within a year. Well, it is now 2002 and I hope it is now in the hot little hands of someone on this list and that they will do a lookup in it for me. Please! I am after any HARBIN surnames. I know from deeds & census that Alfred, Joshua, James, Jarrett, and William were there in the 1820-60 period. I know some of them moved on, but I hope to find who might have died there, and what kids they had. With Jarrett in particular there was a junior and senior and I am trying to find out who their wives were and when senior died. He was my ancestor's brother.
