These are country-wide alphabetical abstracts of the files..a goldmine of info if your ancestor is listed. They also show the widows and heirs applications for the pension where the soldier was deceased, if memory serves. And, if I undertand the question properly, chain-carrier wasn't so much a profession, as an interested person taking part in the surveying process of the land, someone close to the land-owner. Am I correct on this, Fred? Bonnie

    3. Thank you Ladye! I know this is a big responsibility and we are so happy that you are giving us your time and energy. Also glad that Fred is keeping active in the group! Bless you both! To Kathleen...about the chain carriers...I, too, have Warren Co. ancestors who were in that work. My were the Dunnegan's. They came to TN from Surry, NC. I believe they were connected to the Armstrongs who are known for early land surveys in TN. Martin Armstrong signed my ancestor, Absalom Dunnegan, marriage bond. The ink was so faded that we could not make out the name of the bride! I am sure I will never know that link! If you learn anything about the chain carriers, please let me know. I know Absalom's sons, John and William, are on record as chain bearers. He also had 10 Children and his wife was Ann Lewis whom he married in IL. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Mary
