    1. [TNWARREN] State of the USGenNet server
    2. Fred Smoot
    3. Greetings, Just to make things clear, the TNGenWeb Warren County website, plus Warren's neighboring county websites such as DeKalb, Grundy, and White are on the USGenNet server. That server is offline. Also, the TNGenWeb state pages and about thirty other Tennessee county sites are down. The Warren County Genealogical Association and MTGS are offline. The Tennessee Local History Network (TNLHN) state site is offline. There are about sixty other Tennessee county TNGenWeb sites on other servers (such as RootsWeb) that are online such as: http://www.cafes.net/jlewis/cannon.htm (Cannon) http://www.cafes.net/jlewis/ (Coffee County) http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnvanbur/ (Van Buren) Hopefully, tomorrow USGenNet will determine whether it will replace the server or replace parts. In either case, I do not see the server fully functioning until the end of the week at the earliest. Fred Smoot

    3. Jesse, Sorry I haven't been in touch sooner but am looking at having back surgery and it is hard for me to sit too long at the computer. I think your family is connected in some way and I would like for you to have a copy of this little book. it is crude and doesn't list places of birt or marriages but I believe it could give us a good place to start from. The beginning of the book has some very interesting stories and information. If you want I can mail it or scan and send you a few pages at a time. Let me know and I will see what I can do. Thanks Jean ----- Original Message ----- From: Jesse McWhirter <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, November 07, 2002 10:28 AM Subject: [TNWARREN] Halterman/McWhirter > I am searching for a lost family in my Warren county folks. > Jack Sampson McWhirter born 1855 son of George Marlin McWhirter and Sarah Elizabeth Cunningham, he married Emma/Emaline Halterman Feb.6,1881. 3. Jesse I was so excited to see the McWhiter name but I couldn't find your names in my husbands line. I thought that there might other names that could fit. I have a book(crude) that has the history of the McWhiter clan back to the 1700's in looks like it was published in 1937. My husband grandfather was Thomas Forbes McWhiter. We live in OK and if you want to send some other names and locations I will look them up. The book is really interesting and if we find any of your names in it I will copy it for you. It looks like they were in Penn and then scattered throughout the country. The spelling has been changed a few times throughout history. If you want I could scan the intro and send to you. 3. Re: [Forum:] Browntown, Red Bank, a Warren County Query posting by Gilbert West This from the query: >>A court document in 1867 made reference to an "estate called Browntown or Red Bank."<< This from Betty Moore Majors "Warren County, Tennessee Deed Book A" (deed abstractions), p.22: "pg 335/6. 3 Now 1812 George Mitchell of Wison County, Tennessee to Robert Brown of Warren County for $250.00 ... 200 acres on both sides of Barren Fork of Collins River, distinguished by the name of the red banks, being the tract whereon the said Brown now lives ... corner of the entry of the heirs of Moses Davis by Tennessee grant No. 2929 Reg 6 Nov 1812." This land is in Tennessee's Second Surveyors' District and would place east of Crisp Springs.. It would seem reasonable that the "Browntown" could be connected to "Red Bank" since Robert, Thomas Brown (RevWarVets), a son William, later Abner and Isaac are found *at,* next to, or near the "Red Banks" tract. http://www.tngenweb.org/warren/cemeteries/brown-barren.gif Fred Smoot
