Tei, In looking in the book, the Warren County Story, by Eugene Wiseman, the only Gordon family surname's that I find are the following: Diana Gordon Soloman, who appears to have been a prospersous planter and landowner from Franklin County, North Carolina. And, there is a George Gordon listed who had George Gordon's turnpike road near Cumberland Mountain. This was around 1840 according to the book. However, it does not list any more information on George. I have also looked in the obituary books that I have and there is no Gordon listed. Hope this helps. Yes, I may as well wade into a mess for my inaugural post to this list. I'm chasing James CUNNINGHAM, b. 8 Apr 1817 in Grassy Cove, "old" Warren County. In theory, he was the one of ten children, fifth child and second son of David Cunningham, b. ca. 1765 in Pennsylvania, m. 1790 Unity RYAN. I know what happened to James--*boy*, do I know; I have a printed genealogy listing all the several thousand known descendants of his twelve children. (It has to be used with some care, because there are a number of known bloops in it, but it's a helpful jumping-off place.) Because of those twelve children, and because they married all the neighbors in sight, I'm related to approximately half the Texas county where I grew up. But what I *don't* know is anything about James's siblings, other than their names, and I can't go backwards from him much. That's where my questions come in. Does anyone have information regarding this David Cunningham or any of his other children? Well, I'm not completely sure. I have a "Doc" Grissom in my line, but I don't know if this is the same one. I'll have to do some checking as this isn't one I've been researching of late. Immediately, however, when I saw the obit listed, my ears perked up. One has to wonder how many "Doc" Grissom's there were. Hopefully, not many, and we'll find a connection. It might be next week before I can find my documents. Been pulling Christmas decorations out of my closet the last two days. This is a nightmare, but one of my own making. In any case, I will get back to you just as soon as I can locate my piles. Need to sort thru them, among many other things. I'll talk to you shortly. And thanks again for getting the info to me. Looks like the server is down on the genweb. Jenny
Dear folks, About 6 p.m. the USGenNet server went down. The drive we replaced turned out not to be the problem but rather one of the data drives. Despites Jim's work, we went up and down and finally choked. New parts will need to be purchased or possibly a new server. It might be a good time to consider donating to USGenNet if you have not already done so. In any case, nothing can be done until Monday, then things will have to be shipped, installed and set up. We may be offline for days. We hope to try to restore partial functionality to the "broken" server, at least enough to put up a message that explains that we are temporarily down and perhaps to restore the mailing lists so folks can talk.
