    3. Patty , I know nothing of Redmam McMahan, but there are McMahans in Coffee County, TN. Also before 1844, when Grundy Co was formed, the distance between the Warren County line and the Jackson County, AL line would have been about 35 mile. Maybe less if he lived on the mountain. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Patrisha Goodwin" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, February 13, 2003 7:23 AM Subject: Re: [TNWARREN] Commercialism on TNWARREN, copyright, and more. > Billie, > Do you possible have anything for Redmon McMahan? 3. From "The Warren County Story" by Eugene Wiseman (page 296) I find the following on Redman McMahan "McMahan, Redman, born ca 1731, died after 1834 when he applied for a pension "aged 103 last day of Jan. __no fixed place of ressidence, lives about with his children." Warren Co. Deed Book Vol. 1. Enlisted Craven District, SC." At 08:23 AM 2/13/2003 -0500, you wrote: >Billie, >Do you possible have anything for Redmon McMahan? I know >he applied for his Rev. 3. Billie, Do you possible have anything for Redmon McMahan? I know he applied for his Rev. War Penison in 1834 at the age of 103 while a resident of Warren Co., TN. That he was a resident and land owner of the county since 1808. Some researchers state he died in Jackson Co., AL where one son migrated to, which I feel is highly unlikely, since his advanced years and travel was still difficult. He was a man of mystery and there is much speculation on his wife as well. Patti

    1. [TNWARREN] Commercialism on TNWARREN, copyright, and more.
    2. Fred Smoot
    3. This message is from your TNWARREN list administrator. Greetings, As you know, or should know, I am death on commercial postings to this list. It is the quickest way to get unsubscribe and blocked from this list. Still some things are OK to be published here. I received a query from a subscriber re a posting, "[TNWARREN] Prominent Residents of TN," and posted by one of our other list subscribers, Patrisha Goodwin. Patti had simply forwarded a URL (not hers) about an available book. http://www.scutfamilytree.com/tnbook.htm I am sure that Patti's posting was strictly a public service posting. It was entirely acceptable that Patti had done so. My authority over the posting ends here, however, some questions were asked of me so I will offer some additional comments. The webpage for the book gives a surname index for the book, and a link to eBay were the book is being offered until 18 Feb 2003. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2910996047 The owner also states: "Interested in the photo of your ancestor? Interested in the bio for your ancestor? Contact Me" My correspondent did just that and received an answer from a Susann Swain. Ms Swain offered to fax some info for free, and also included this: "Otherwise - I can either e-mail or use regular mail to send you the biography and the title page of the book. I am looking to marginally cover my costs for the time (and possible postage) that this will require, not to mention the cost of the book. I am charging $5.00 for email and $10.00 for regular mail delivery. I accept paypal or you can send me a check or money order." Ms Swain appears to be a regular eBay seller (with a very good rating). That is probably why she can accept PayPal. Her asking for a fee in advance is just plain good sense. Asking for a fee to cover costs is prudent. While many of us TNGenWeb folk freely provide services, we do it because it pleasures us to do so. Internet genealogists have come to expect a free genealogy cyber-lunch. Nobody is required to provide freely, time or postage. About the book. This book may be available at TSLA. If so, and if you wanted some page copies, you would need to pay in advance for their services. Since the book was published in 1923, it could still be in copyright, provided that the publisher renewed the copyright in the 28th year after the original publishing date. If that is the case, it could not be re-printed without the permission of the publisher. To see more on copyright, see this page: http://www.usgennet.org/usgnhome/copyright.html Fred Smoot

    3. Ken, I do not know who Monroe Davis' father is. I have: 1) DAVIS, Monroe. 17 Feb 1866-22 Jul 1945. (Husband of Rebecca Hillis). Cunningham, Almetia and Martha Holt. Compiled and Edited by Betty Moore Majors, 1Warren County, Tennessee Cemetery Book 1, Annotated, (Mountain Press, Signal Mountain, TN 1993), p. 253. ------------------------------------------------------- 2) Campaign - Monroe Davis age 89 years passed away at his home Wednesday night. He had been quite ill for several weeks. Funeral services were held at the Friendship Baptist Church Friday and burial was in Friendship cemetery. He is survived by three sons, Titus of Quebeck, Dennie, Floyd and a daughter, Mrs. William Rutledge of Campaign, several grandchildren and great grandchildren. Southern Standard, McMinnville, TN. Thurs, 11 Nov 1954, p. 19. -------------------------------------------------------- 3) Rebecca Hillis Davis - Funeral home gives year of death as 1952. Tombstone has (11 Jul 1868 - 9 May 1956) -------------------------------------------------------- It appears to me that John C. DAVIS in your census data is most probably the father of Monroe Davis. I am fowarding this on to someone that I just heard about who is a Davis research. Hopefully, he can settle the question.
