    1. [TNWARREN] Bernard Blankenship/Lera Martin Parker
    2. Does anyone on the list have a marriage book for Warren County and wouldn't mind doing a lookup for me. I am trying to find a marriage date for ARTHUR BERNARD BLANKENSHIP to LERA MARTIN PARKER. They married sometime around 1920. Also, I have not found where Bernard was buried but did Lera buried in DeKalb Co. If anyone has any information on this family I would appreciated the help. Thanks, Pattie

    3. Carolyn, I can't prove the parents of Andrew E. Bates, but suspect it could be Alexander and Anne(?). Any ideas? 1. Re: [TNWARREN] Cemetery lookup please for Herman H. Kirby
    2. Elsie Jones
    3. Vivian, I did not find a Herman Kirby listed in any of the Warren County Cemetery books. However, I did find an obituary for him in the obituaries extracted from Southern Standard - 1935 to 1940 [Page 24] compiled by Maxine Reggio (1 Feb., 1999). It is not an obituary in the ordinary sense of the word, but it is the story of his death. --------------------------------------------- Kirby, Herman Southern Standard McMinnville TN, Thurs. Sept. 19, 1935 Charles Green will Face Murder Charge in Circuit Court Tue. Herman Kirby Dies of Injuries Received Friday Night As He Attempted to Arrest CCC Worker in Local Restaurant Herman Kirby, 45, died early Sunday morning from injuries sustained in a combat with Charlie Green, CCC boy, who resisted arrest. The boy, who was in an intoxicated condition had been warned to leave town, with tow [two] other lads, also intoxicated. Instead of going to their homes, they went on down the street going into the Baily Cafe on East Main. Mr. Kirby followed them to the cafe, and attempted to arrest young Green. When he resisted arrest, Mr. Kirby reached for his blackjack, but the boy wrested it from him, and struck him over the head, with what proved to be a fatal blow. The boys, as well as other bystanders, fled from the scene. Mr. Kirby was taken to the Maloney hospital, Saturday morning and a vain effort was made to save his life by operating. He did not regain consciousness. Death came early Sunday morning. Green, who was home on furlough from a CCC camp, near Chattanooga, was found, apparently asleep in a sage field near his home. When officers found him, his first work [word] was a query as to Mr. Kirby's condition. He promised to go with the officers peaceably, and was brought in by Chief of Police E. F. Chambers, and deputies Jewell Mullican and Alton Crouch. At the hearing before City Recorder J. T. Ewton in the police court, Saturday afternoon, the case was bound over to the circuit court, now in session, and his bond was set at [$]10,000. He was charged with assault with attempt to commit murder. As an act of safety, in case of any public feeling against the young prisoner, he was taken to Murfreesboro, where he was placed in the Rutherford county jail, until time to bring him back to McMinnville for the hearing of his case. Mr. Kirby, a popular member of the local police force had already announced his intentions, unofficially of becoming a candidate for the position of chief of police, for the December election. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Nealy Kirby, a son, step-son, step-daughter, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. B. Kirby of near Springfield, and seven sisters, Mrs. Alice Meadows, Mrs. Carrie Carver, Mrs. Fannie Lewis, Mrs. Viva Stark, Mrs. Maggie England, Mrs. Harry Meadows, and Miss Verda Kirby, all of near Springfield. Funeral services were held at the home on North Center street, Monday morning when the Rev. A. H. Huff of the Baptist Church and T. Q. Martin of the Church of Christ officiated. Interment at Springfield. ---------------------------------------- I hope this will help you. Elsie Ward Jones ----- Original Message ----- From: "Vivian I. 1. [TNWARREN] Cemetery lookup please for George Rains
    2. deraines
    3. I am going to visit Warren Co. at end of Aug. and first of Sept. Will be going to a Rains reunion across from French Cemetery. There is a George Rains buried there but this is the grandson of the George I am looking for. The George I am looking for was born about 1750 in VA and lived near Caney Branch in 1807. Any help including other old cemetery locations in that area as old or older than French Cemetery. Asahel Rains the son of George and his son George are buried in French Cemetery. I have heard that might be a Rains Cemetery close by?

Edmond Ellis and wife Nancy were listed in the Warren Co. 1850 census - 3rd Civil District with children Ann, William, Albert, Tabitha, James, Jane, Elizabeth, Mary A., and Alfred. William Ellis was married to Amy Smith. He died in 1830. The widow Amy is found in the 1850 Warren Co. census in the household of Solomon Williams and wife Elizabeth Ellis, daughter of William and Amy Ellis. Jonathan left Warren Co., TN for Illinois by 1820. Would like to make contact with descendents of these families. Sherry

    1. [TNWARREN] Boyd
    2. Is there anyone who could do a look up for me please. I am looking for information on Frances/Fanny Boyd and Green W. Boyd. Any cemetery records and ect. I find Green W. Boyd, Frances and Lafayette , John H in the 1870 Warren co. Tn census. In the 1880 Warren Co. Tn census I find Frances Boyd, and Lafayette Boyd. John has gone to Jackson Co. Tn. In the 1900 census Lafayette is in Texas. Can not find Frances. Think she and Green maybe buried in Warren co. Tn. Is there any Marriage records for 1860 on.They got married somewhere in that time frame. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks so much Gerelene

    3. Betty, this may be the right person. Benjamin Horace and Priscilla Abigail BATES had a daughter Louisa. The only information I have on here is that she is listed in the letter the attorney sent to my grandfather naming Elisha's brothers and sisters (or their heirs) as heirs of his estate. They listed her as "Mrs. Louisa Koger, widow, Grovetown, GA". The dr. part is probably a family incorrect story. ----- Original Message ----- From: "The Whitlocks" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, March 01, 2003 3:47 PM Subject: Re: [TNWARREN] Abigail (Holcomb) BATES & Louisa Koger > Carolyn, > By the way, There is a Joseph COGER, farmer (not doctor), living in Richmond > Co Augusta GA in 1870; wife Louvicia (hard to read), born PA. > Betty > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Carolyn Krodell" <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Saturday, March 01, 2003 12:50 PM > Subject: Re: [TNWARREN] Abigail (Holcomb) BATES & Louisa Koger > > > > Betty, THANK YOU so much. 3. Betty, THANK YOU so much. I told my husband yesterday, that something just did not make sense about the Phillip family except that Abigail did have a daughter Mariah E. which could stand for Elizabeth. Abigail living in the Broomfield Ridley BATES household makes more sense to me too. Are you searching this line? 3. Hello, A number of years ago I read the 1870 Warren Co TN microfilm, and hand copied those enumerations that pertained to the lines I'm researching. In noticing the listing below that you have for Abigail Bates in household of Jonathan and Elizabeth Phillips, I took a second look at the census. The listing as I copied it from microfilm is: Bloomfield BATES 37 Mary E. 25 Robt E. 3 Alice A. 2 Benj. H. 1/12 Abbigal BATES 71 Pennsylvania Wm. MOLEY[?] 12 In looking at the printed census book, the names are indeed: Jonathan PHILLIPS 34 Elizabeth 30 Robert 3 Alice 2 Benjamin 1/12 Abigail BATES 71 William MOLEY 12 I don't know if I made a mistake, or the printed book is in error, but it makes more sense to me that Abigail would be living with her son, Bloomfield Ridley Bates, rather than a Phillips family. 1. [TNWARREN] Abigail (Holcomb) BATES & Louisa Koger
    2. Carolyn Krodell
    3. Not allot. Recently and only after a kind soul, Christy, did a cemetery lookup for me and said that Benjamin BATES wife, Abigail's last name was listed as Holcomb, did I know. According to most information available she was born in VT. Some of her children, Elisha b abt 1821, Norman b 1822, Almond b.1831, Williston b. 1834 and perhaps Louisa were born in PA. The rest of the children, Broomfield Ridley, Lucy, Mariah, Martha Jane & Juliet were born in Warren Co. TN. By the way, her whole name is Priscilla Abigail b 1802. I don't know where in Vt. Benjamin and Abigail (Abigal) were listed in the 1840 Warren Co. census. The 1840 index says Wilson Co. but the actually record is recorded in Warren Co. She was listed as head of household in 1850, 1860. In 1870, she is listed as living in the household of Jonathan and Elizabeth Phillips. I ask a male BATES cousin to participate in the BATES DNA study so I am hoping at some point to be able to find the birth locations to help further search. I would also like to know if anyone has any information on Abigail's daughter Louisa. Apparently she married a Dr. Koger and moved to Grove, GA. In 1907, she was a widow living in Grove. Wish I could find out even where Grove, GA is or was. Any suggestions are help appreciated.
