She was born in Sharps Chapel (Union County) to William Alvis Claiborne and Cora Jane Lynch Claiborne on January 20, 1920. Her family moved to the Nails Creek community in Blount County when she was a teenager because of the Norris Dam displacement. Mrs. McCammon attended Porter High School and was an active member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church until her declining health. She retired from the Blount County ASCS Office. She was a charter member of the Blount County Republican National Committee. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, William Edward McCammon; parents, Bill and Cora Claiborne; sisters, Maggie (infant), Pearl and husband Roy McCammon and Mayme and husband Ed Goins; brothers, Jessie (infant); Elmer, Ed and wife Norma and Carter and first wife, Dorothy; sister-in-law, Francis Claiborne; and son-in-law, Grover Cruze. She is survived by daughter, Carol Sue Cruze; grandchildren: Cherie and husband, Dean Brown, Tracey Graves, Heather and husband, Trey Atkins, Lori and husband, Stephen Cupp; great grandchildren: Mallory Brown, Amber and husband, Radge Harrison, William Brown, Devin, Keaton, Camryn, and Allie Cupp, Georgia, Isabelle, and Jessie Atkins; sister, Lorene Crowe and husband, Bobby; brother, Frank Claiborne; sisters-in-law: Dorothy Claiborne and Blanche Claiborne, Edith McCammon and Helen McCammon; many nieces and nephews. A special thanks to devoted nephew, Don Claiborne and close friends Sharon McNutt, Wanda Pilgrim, Ruby Weaver, and so many devoted friends and neighbors from the community. Family will receive friends from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM Tuesday at Cedar Grove Baptist Church, Nails Creek Road with the service to follow at 11:00 AM, Rev. Bob Lynch officiating. Interment will follow at Cedar Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Cedar Grove Baptist Church, 5302 Nails Creek Road, Maryville, TN 37804.
