However, the first census for Union County is 1860. All my ancestors that I am researching are missing in the 1850 census, they are nowhere to be found. In 1840, they were in Claiborne &/or Campbell counties. I am wondering if Union County was missed entirely from the 1850 census since it had just formed. Does anyone have any information regarding this? Thanks in advance! Dee - DeeLite32@aol.com Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I don't have any verifiable information on this, but I have some of the same problems. I have found people on the 1850 census in Claiborne or Campbell counties who later ended up in Union Co, so the census was taken. But I also have other people who didn't show up at all. My theory is that in 1850 there were some uncertainties about whether Union Co had actually been correctly created, so in the area where these three counties now join up some areas may not have been checked because each person thought somebody else was supposed to do it. > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: crensch69 > Surnames: Honeycutt > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.tennessee.counties.un > ion/2173/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > Union County was formed in 1850 from Anderson, Campbell, Claiborne, Grainger > and Knox counties.
