In an email I received from another researcher regarding James NORTON who married Mary Ann MORTON, he said the following: "I believe it was James Norton who adopted one or more of 3 Hutcheson orphan females who were in Anderson County in 1823. Those females were the children of John B. Hutcheson of Mecklenburg County, NC. I do not know the details of exactly how they became orphans, but, apparently John B. Hutcheson was in Anderson County and something happened to him, which was referred to in his brothers will. One of those females, Martha, subsequently married a Washam. I do not know what happened to the others. There is NO RECORD that I can find of John B. Hutcheson's presence in Anderson County other than the children showing up there and the reference to John B. Hutcheson by his brother, James M. Hutcheson in his will written in about 1834." Does anyone have any information about this? I would very much like to connect to the NORTON line and this information might give me another source to check. Thanks so very much, Nina MORTON T.
