Stanley," posted by Liz Wendelken on Sat, 13 Mar 1999 --- NAME: Lockwood Marine EMAIL: lmarine@ibm.net SURNAMES: Stanley DATE: Mar 15 1999 QRYTEXT: Hi Liz, I don't have a definite answer to your question about Union Co. Stanleys but several of us have worked on the subject for some time.My gmother was Mary Florence Stanley(daughter of Richard G who was a brother ofGerean W.) who married James Lincoln Marine and lived on Copper Ridge and is buried at the Copper Ridge Church(it was Meth. until about 15 yrs ago).A lot of work has been done on the family by Patricia Ann Stanley(wife of Robert Alfred who is a gson of Wm. Burleson, ggson of Richard G.)who lives in Florida. Her email is Pattistan@juno.com.Patti believes that John M and Wm. were brothers but we have not been able to prove it or determine for sure the link between John and his parents. My father told me stories about a john Stanley who had a land grant for a bunch of land in what is now Knox and Union Cos.between Copper Ridge and Bull Run Creek.Patti has an account of an Indian ambush which killed a John Stanley and two of his sons but one son named John and the wife and tw! o daughters were captured and later rescued or bought back from the Indians. This event took place somewhere near Cumberland Gap.The 1880 census lists John M's parents as being born in Virginia and family history has it that the family came from Va. to N. C. and then to Tenn. If you will email me an address I can mail or attach to an email all of Patti's work. It is in gen file form from Family Tree Maker. Hope to hear from you soon-it is always nice to hear from a new "cousin". Lockwood Marine.
