Tn Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tn/Union/888 Surname: Davis ------------------------- This information comes from various sources, i.e. Grainger Co census records, Union Co census records, Bible records, stories provided by relatives and information that Uncle Joe Davis gave to me over 20 years ago that a descendent of Isaac Jasper Davis had compiled. I have not proved any of it via legal documents; however, I believe the majority of it to be correct.May be off a year or so on dates. I have not worked a lot on this line, however, now that I have my computer and some additional resource materials, I plan to put this in a data base to share with others and perhaps we can take this back further. Isaac Davis (b. abt 1816 - d. btwn 1850-60) md Eliza Greer (1820 - ?) children: Will b. 1831; Polly 1838, William "Bill ? (may be the same as Will) Nancy J. 1842, George Washington 1845, Elija 1845 - 1927, Sarah E. 1849, Winfield Scott 1852, Isaac Marion b. Sept 27, 1855 - died Apr 23, 1920 Isaac Marion md Minerva Ann Hurst Seymour August 25, 1875 Minerva b. Feb l, 1859 and died Feb 21, 1948, She was dau of Hamilton and Fannie Hurst Seymour children: Margaret Dorthea 1876-1892; Samuel Nathaniel June 27, 1878 - May ll, 1964; Isaac "Ike" Jasper 1881- 1951; Mary Elizabeth 1883; George Washington 1885; Eliza Ordonna 1888 (my line); William Elijah "Lige" 1891, Martha Melvina 1894; Joseph Hamilton 1896; Sarah Alice 1899; Fannie Etta 1902 Samuel Nathaniel Davis married June 2, 1900 to Sally Kirk; believe she is dau of John and Sarah Kirk. She is shown in the 1900 Union Co census in the home of John A. and Nancy Capps as a niece, and it is my belief that Nancy and Sally's mother Sarah may have been sister. Sally was born Nov 2, 1882 and died Nov 7, 1974. I have been told that Sally had a brother named Mansfield Kirk, and there is a male l year old in the John/Sarah Kirk family in 1880 with the name Magneficke, which could be translated to actually be Mansfield;he would be close in age to Sally. My Aunt told me that Sally was raised by my ggrand uncle Wm Robert "Bob" Capps. Don't know that this is fact, or if so, why, unless her parents died while she was young. Her mother would have been about 48-50 yrs old when she was born. Children of Samuel Nathaniel and Sally Kirk Davis are: William Odra (Rev) b. 1902 - 1985 md Zetta Vandergriff, their dau Buelah Lee md ? Niceley John Marion b. 1903 - 1968 md l) Annie Bundon c. Georgianna 1931-1931, md 2) Ollie Qualls Donahue Henry Clayton (1906 - 1982) md 1) Iva Walton, children Ralph; Erma Lou md Wyrick, Edward, Larry; md 2) Reba K.? Flossie Belle 1908-1931 md. Ed Bailey, children: Victor and Cleo Fredrick Elijah (Rev) md Lola Nicley, children Mary Ruth, Paul, Hope Elic Monroe 1914 - 1973 md. Zella Cook, no children Murphy md. Ruth Donahue, children Samuel Martin James Austin 1919 - ?) md Dana Washam, children Allen, David, Roger, Craaig Verlan Garaden(?) 1922 - ? md. Nona Kitts, children Gary, Ronnie, Richard, Carroll, Norma Goldie May 1924 - md Bill Gose, children Glenda Ann, Wm Stephen Georgia Lorene b. 1929 - ? md Conley Dyer, children Virgil, Patricia My grandmother, Eliza Ordonna Davis md Charles Wesley Capps in 1911. She died in 1927. Their children were Annie Lou, Grace Rosella, Lucy Mary Lee, Oscar (died 12 yrs old) Cindy Ina Ruth, and Fred Austin (my father). He was only 4 yrs old when his mother died, and he had very little knowledge of his mother's family except for the ones that married in the Capps family, i.e. Uncle Lige md Alice Capps, Martha Melvinna md Albert Capps, Uncle Joe md Ivy Capps. I have information on most of the brothers/sisters of Samuel N. Davis if you are interested. For the lady who was seeking information on Nancy E. Davis that married Landen Nicely, I have the TN marriage record to indicate that their were married on 6 Feb 1883 in Union County. I will research my Union Co census books for more information on her. I don't believe that she descends directly from our line of Davis, but could be some relation. There are a lot of Davis families in Grainger, Union, Campbell and Knox Counties back in the 1800s. There is a Davis community in Campbell County as well as a Capps Creek. Dr. Scott Davis, son of Elijah, son of Isaac and Eliza Greer Davis, once said "You could find a lot of different tallent in the Davis family. They are doctors, lawyers, preachers, teachers and moonshiners. " Would appreciate hearing from anyone with information on the Davis families. Be glad to share the information I have.
