Joyce, Did you find John Wesley on the 1850? He would be a child, of course. If you have him on that census, would you send it to me? As you know, I have to beg for the 1850 record. I don't know the family at all, but per the cemetery book, Sarah was born 13 October 1844 and died 18 February 1918, so there should be a death certificate, although compliance was very spotty in 1918. There are no dates listed for John, just the fact that he served in the 3rd Tennessee Infantry. Checking a little further, Sarah died in Knox County, and there is a death certificate. You can find images of Tennessee death certificates for free at familysearch.org; just look under "USA, Canada & Mexico", then "Tennessee Death Records, 1914-1955", not "Tennessee Deaths and Burials". John was the informant, so he was still living. I looked a little further and searched for John Johnson, born 1841, and found his death certificate, giving his father as James Johnson but not listing his mother; there's no guarantee, of course, that the death certificate is correct. He died 13 February 1921 in Knoxville. -- Phillip A. Dear List, Would like to make contact with anybody connected to John Wesley (Westley) Johnson, who was b. 18 July 1841 in Grainger Co. I am interested to know the names of his parents. John Wesley Johnson was married in 1866, Union Co. TN to Sarah Elizabeth Johnson, a dau. of Vardamon Johnson & Lockey Mitchell. John Wesley & Susan E. Johnson are both buried in Milan Baptist Church Cemetery in Union Co. The line of Vardamon Johnson connects to our DNA Johnson group. I would assume (always a dangerous thing in genealogy) that TN Death Certificates are available for John Wesley & Sarah Elizabeth. Does anybody have a copy of these certs? Always willing to exchange & share info to benefit each researcher. Are John Wesley & Susan Elizabeth cousins? Thank you, Judy in TX

Thanks Nancy, Your middle name made me curious. Easter's sister was my wife's Grandmother, Jennie Cassada Yadon. Jennie married Elbert Shumate. Let me know if you have any questions on the Shumate or Yadon families. Yankee ears and Tennessee drawls don't mix too well. My connection with Elbert's line is really stretched - you'd have to go all the way back to John Hammock Sr (1755-1840) and Nancy Maples. Also her mother's maiden name if you know it. I'll let you know if I hear anything about the murder. I found Elbert's death certificate at familysearch.org . Cause of death is "murdered by knife stab in heart". Place of death is Union County, then it asks if injury occured in industry, home, or what? answer is "near Haun Cemetery". I could really use some clarification on my LONGMIRE family. I have William Longmire, born 1704 in London, Middlesex, England married to Susanna(h) Marshall, with William’s parents being George Francis Longmire and wife, Anne Unknown. However, I am working with another researcher who shows the following: William Longmire, born 1704 in London, Middlesex, England married to Susanna TURNER with parents being George Longmire and Martha MARSHALL. I highly doubt we could have two William Longmire’s born on the same date in the same city, each married to a Susannah, and with a father named George. So, Susannah’s maiden name is either Marshall or Turner. Does anyone have any idea????? Thanks so very much. Nina
