    2. There was a Haynes Post Office in Union County at one time. I am checking through some books to see if I can find it's location. Usually if there was a post office by a name then there was a community by that same name. That may be what you are looking for. Chip Union County TnGenWeb

    2. Because the cemetery seems to have gone by different names at different times in its history, you may have the right answer when you post all three names that you find it seems to have gone by. That way, people can find the one they're looking for, even if it is going by a different name today. Just my 2 cents. Karen

    1. New Union County stuff
    2. Once again we have added some new stuff to the Union County page. If you haven't already go visit the county host page at http://www.tngenweb.org/hosts to learn more about each of us. Also try to stop by my host page at http://members.aol.com/thagamizer/ Even if you've already been there stop back by, I've posted some of your comments. Thanks for all the kind things most of you said about me. As for the others who thought bad of me "phlegghhhtttttt!!!" No really I got no weird posts. If I had I certainly would have posted them. I did take out some of the things said about me personally as I was afraid it would look a little self serving. The general consensus is that I am short have dark hair and fat! Um...not really! I think the fat comes from me talking about Spam and Moon Pies. Will I ever let you see a picture of me? Originally I said no but I am beginning to weaken a bit. Either way I will eventually announce a winner of the "What Chip Looks Like Contest". Back to serious stuff. If you stop by the Union County Page http://www.tngenweb.org/union You will find that in the query section there are two more types of queries listed now. The first is for queries based in genealogy not necessarily about Union County. Use this one to ask for lookups and just to take guesses you wouldn't feel comfortable putting in a real query. Maybe something like "does anyone know of a good website for ship's passenger lists?" The second is for questions about Union County itself, like where is Weaver's Ridge and such as that. The reason for this is that the page is really taking off as far as hits per night. Most of these people do not belong to our mailing list and if we post some of our questions here they will see them. Who knows maybe some of these passersby can answer some of our questions. Also and probably most important: The Loy-Hutchison Cemetery listed on the page. This cemetery may be known to some by another name. It is in Big Ridge State Park. The sign at the cemetery is gone now and the Park Rangers really don't know much about the original name. The Historical Society as well as The Union County Cemetery Book list it as Loy-Hutchison but others I have spoken with give me two other names. I am still waiting on an answer from TVA as to their opinion. How would you handle this? I'm like one of the people who e-mailed me...it burns me when a historical society or club just renames something because they can't come up with the correct answer. For this reason I would like your input. Should I list all three names and link them all to the same page with a note explaining why? Let me know. Chip Union County TnGenWeb

    1. DAVIS, Elisabeth Ann
    2. I am searching for the parents of Elisabeth Ann DAVIS who married Jehu JOHNSON in Union County, TN (Union Co. marriages show his named spelled John JOHNSON - Elizabeth J. Davis (Elizabeth is really spelled with an "s" and not "z") on August 14, 1879). They are listed in the 1880 Union Co census (again, Jehu is spelled differently - "Jahew") as being 20 and 25 respectively. On the 1860 Union Co. census there is a Sammie DAVIS, married to a Lucy DAVIS. I do not know if this is a sibling of Elisabeth's or cousin, etc. Any information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Nina MORTON T.

    1. Joseph Yadon
    2. Virginia
    3. This message is to correct some serious errors in a posting on the Yadon Family. Joseph Yadon was born in Ireland, 17 Dec 1756. As early as 1772 he was serving in the Irish Army. During the American Revolution, Irish troops were sent to join the British forces against the colonists. Joseph Yadon came to America with British forces under the command of General Burgoyne and was among the prisoners captured during Burgoyne's defeat at Saratoga. These prisoners were marched thru Virginia toward the Albemarle Barracks, at Charlottesville, VA. Many slipped away to join the American Army. Historians note that the Irish people were three to one on the side of the colonists. Joseph Yadon was one of these. He enlisted in the American army in 1779, at Martinsburg, VA (now West Virginia). He was under the command of Col. Joseph Crockett. In Sep 1780, Col. Crockett's men were sent to Ft. Pitt (Pittsburg) where they joined General George Rogers Clark. In June of 1781, Gen. George Rogers Clark left Ft. Pitt with a force of 400 men, traveling in boats down the Ohio River to The Falls of the Ohio (now Louisville, KY). They stayed at The Falls until December when Joseph Yadon was discharged. Please note that the Lewis and Clark expedition began 14 May 1804 from St. Louis, and the Clark of this expedition was William Clark (Gen. George Rogers Clark's younger brother). In 1804 Joseph Yadon was in TN and had 10 children. He married Mary Pennybaker (daughter of Jacob and Christiana Pennybaker) 12 Jan 1782. They had 12 children. Joseph Yadon died 1 Sep 1842, at age 87. He is buried in the Yadon Cemetery. A low, granite marker identifies him as "A Revolutionary War Vet". The children of Joseph and Mary Pennybaker Yadon as listed are in error. I will list the 12 children in another post. A more detaied description of Joseph Yadon's service and complete documentation of all of the above can be found in my book "DOWN IN THE BARNS": THE KECKS OF CLAIBORNE CO., TN.
