Stanleys but several of us have worked on the subject for some time.My gmother was Mary Florence Stanley(daughter of Richard G who was a brother ofGerean W.) who married James Lincoln Marine and lived on Copper Ridge and is buried at the Copper Ridge Church(it was Meth. until about 15 yrs ago).A lot of work has been done on the family by Patricia Ann Stanley(wife of Robert Alfred who is a gson of Wm. Burleson, ggson of Richard G.)who lives in Florida. Her email is Pattistan@juno.com.Patti believes that John M and Wm. were brothers but we have not been able to prove it or determine for sure the link between John and his parents. My father told me stories about a john Stanley who had a land grant for a bunch of land in what is now Knox and Union Cos.between Copper Ridge and Bull Run Creek.Patti has an account of an Indian ambush which killed a John Stanley and two of his sons but one son named John and the wife and tw! o daughters were captured and later rescued or bought back from the Indians. This event took place somewhere near Cumberland Gap.The 1880 census lists John M's parents as being born in Virginia and family history has it that the family came from Va. to N. C. and then to Tenn. If you will email me an address I can mail or attach to an email all of Patti's work. It is in gen file form from Family Tree Maker. Hope to hear from you soon-it is always nice to hear from a new "cousin". Lockwood Marine.

    1. Parker Family
    2. Bill Hunter
    3. Morning List, In the 1830 Claiborne county census Isaac Parker, born 1780-1790 is listed as living near Frederick Bollinger Hunter who married Martha Louisa Parker. According to the 1850 census she was born in South Carolina in 1808. Does anyone have any information on the family of Isaac Parker? Is Martha a daughter? Hopefully a Bible record exists. Is this the Parker family of Laurel county Kentucky? Frederick and Martha's first child, Henry S. Hunter, was born in Laurel county August 15, 1828, but Frederick obviously moved back to Claiborne county shortly afterward. Any help on determining whether Martha was a daughter of Isaac Parker is most appreciated. Bill Hunter

    3. Jerry D Sharrett wrote: > Anyhow, about Flat Creek, which is the main branch? Is it the one that goes > south of WASHBURN (I knew that) and turns up into Clinch Mountain? The branch from Clinch Mountain would be a feeder. (All Creeks and Rivers in that part of the Country flow in a generally southerly direction.) I don't have a good map in front of me with the Creeks noted but, the West Fork of Flat Creek runs parallel to Clinch Mountain to the South of Luttrell and into Knox Co. and then turns generally Eastward. There are numerous branches, some with different names. I believe Chip may have been talking about Little Flat Creek which is further South/West of Corryton. Try looking for House Mountain and tracing the Creek that runs in a general E/W direction located just North of there. You should be able to determine which is the main branch by tracing one that goes generally along that E/W line to the South of Luttrell and turns North toward Washburn. Maybe that will help you to pinpoint it more. Again, I don't know where the West Fork of that Creek ends/begins along that E/W line but the part running South from Washburn down by Luttrell is definitely the West Fork. -- Terry L. 3. Hi all, Can someone tell me about the cemetery in Union Co. It's name is COOK Cemetery. I have reason to beleive that my gggg grandfather Newton J. Cook was buried there and I have reason to beleive that it was named after him. One more question, I also have reason to beleive that when my ancestors came to TN. from S.C. their was a town named COOKTOWN, i think it was named after them when they settled there, it might before 1850 when Union Co. was formed. The only thing that I know is that when the T.V.A. came in they flooded it and I think it sits right on the Co. line of Union Co. and Grainger Co. Can some one help me to fill in the missing pieces.
