My maiden name is Ellison and my family has traced us back to three brother's who moved from N.Caroline about 1797. I believe that their father's name might have been James but one of the three brother's was named James and was born in 1780. This James was my great great great great grandfather. He was married to a Susannah Ausmus. I have heard that some can trace us back to the McAllister clan from Scotland. James has a grandson named Berry who was born in1836. This Berry was married at Lost Creek, Union County by a Reverend Williams. He had three children before he joined the Union Army in Union County. Any help on this line or the Ellison's Part in the Civil War would be WONDERFUL. Write please. Melissa :-).

    2. Guide to Northerners Visiting or Moving to the Southern States: If you are from the northern states and planning on visiting or moving to the South, there are a few things you should know that will help you adapt to the difference in lifestyles: If you run your car into a ditch, don't panic. Four men in a four-wheel drive pickup truck with a 12 pack of beer and a tow chain will be along shortly. Don't try to help them, just stay out of their way. This is what they live for. Don't be surprised to find movie rentals and bait in the same store. Do not buy food at this store. Remember, "ya'll" is singular, "all ya'll" is plural, and "all ya'll's"is plural possessive. Get used to hearing "You ain't from around here, are ya?" You may hear a Southerner say "Ought!" to a dog or child. This is short for "Ya'll oughta not do that!" and is the equivalent of saying "No!" Don't be worried at not understanding what people are saying. They can't understand you either. The first Southern expression to creep into a transplanted Northerner's vocabulary is the adjective "big'ol," as in "big'ol truck"or "big'ol boy."Most Northerners begin their Southern-influenced dialect this way. All of them are in denial about it. The proper pronunciation you learned in school is no longer proper. Be advised that "He needed killin" is a valid defense here. If you hear a Southerner exclaim, "Hey, ya'll, watch this," stay out of the way. These are likely to be the last words he'll ever say. If there is the prediction of the slightest chance of even the smallest accumulation of snow, your presence is required at the local grocery store. It doesn't matter whether you need anything or not. You just have to go there. When you come up on a person driving 15 mph down the middle of the road, remember that most folks learn to drive on a John Deere, and that this is the proper speed and position for that vehicle. In the South, we have found that the best way to grow a lush, green lawn is to pour gravel on it and call it a driveway. If you do settle in the South and bear children, don't think we will accept them as Southerners. After all, if the cat had kittens in the oven, we wouldn't call 'em biscuits. North and South: The North has sun-dried toe-mah-toes The South has 'mater samiches The North has coffeehouses The South has Waffle Houses The North has dating services The South has family reunions The North has switchblade knives The South has Lee Press-on Nails The North has double last names The South has double first names The North has Ted Kennedy The South has Jesse Helms The North has an ambulance, The South has an amalance The North has the Mafia, The South has NASCAR The North has Indy car races The South has Swamp Buggy races The North has Cream of Wheat or Oatmeal The South has grits The North has green salads The South has collard greens and chitlins The North has lobsters The South has crawdads The North has Distilleries, Breweries, and liquor stores The South has stills, shine, and them ridgerunners The North has the rust belt The South has the Bible Belt The North has Dan Quayle The South has Bill Clinton

    3. Happy St. Patricks Day!! Looking for any information on Elizabeth Anna aka Anna Eliza LAFORCE who married James Kelly Rogers June 22, 1842 in Union County. The 1850 census lists another LaForce, Luke and his family. I believe that Luke and family emigrated to Texas. The 1840 census lists several other LaForces which I believe are the relatives of Anna Eliza, probably her brothers, uncles etc. One family, with Stuban listed as head, migrated to Kansas where he died and is buried near Wichita. This family returned and settled in Oklahoma. This family doesn't care to correspond about Anna Eliza. I would be happy for any tidbit about the LaForces in Tennessee. I have the information published in the large Union County book, also pictures of Anna's and James's graves. May there be a generation of children on your children's children. -An Irish blessing Barb in Anthony, KS

    1. Reply and the list
    2. If your mail program does not have the option of reply to all, (or something similar) simply copy and paste their e-mail address from the top of the list mail. Paste it into a new e-mail and write your message. When you click send, it will only go to them. The Union County list was set up to send back to the list (default) on purpose. I feel it is better this way. Many of the people who have been members of the list for some time can report success at finding people searching related families by reading other's genealogy correspondence. Of course I realize that some e-mail would be better if in private and that's why after the initial contact, two parties may feel it's better to correspond one on one. They do this by getting the other person's e-mail address (at the top of all list mail) and replying only to that person. Common courtesy though, would be to ask that person if they mind a one on one conversation. This would be a good time to let all of the new people know about myself. My name is Chip and I am the registered owner of the Union County page and it's mailing list. Any questions, comments or anything else for that matter may be addressed to me personally at Union@tngenweb.org. 2. Hi, Jerry. I guess our mutual cousin, Mark Asbell, has a lot of info on the Beelers, Sharrits, et al. My family line is the MORTON line and of course, Elizabeth MORTON married a Beeler -- in fact, I think there's a darn load of them in our tree. Ha. I went to Mark's site and upgraded some of the info I did not have, so I'll add yours also. It's so nice to meet cousin!! That's one of the best parts of all this. If you want any of my stuff, you're welcome to it. Ha. Nina Morton Tomasieski 1505 Ashbury Lane Pittsburgh, PA 15237 412/630-8865 kat3946429@aol.com
