I don't go back beyond him - would welcome any earlier information. As for the question about J Will Taylor - he was a Union Army officer, state representative and then US Senator from Tennessee. He is buried at Taylor Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Union County, the same cemetery where Wm Hamic's children Winnie Hamic Hopson and Horace Hamic are buried. Great grandma Winnie and Uncle Horace both have large, clearly readable stones - was just there last month & confirmed that - but they don't appear in "Footprints" or any of its amendments. Maybe someone in Union Co has a family history of J Will Taylor for Kay in GA. Nancy

    2. Nancy, You had mentioned James W. Taylor in Union Co. had signed some documents as a notary in 1896. You had also asked a question as to whether this was the famous J. Will Taylor of Union Co. I'm curious about that statement. I am looking for a Taylor in Union Co., Emma Annis Taylor who was born 1871. Could you tell me about the "famous J. Will Taylor" you mentioned? I would be very grateful. Maybe it would be something that I might connect with. Thanks. Kay in Georgia

    2. Is anyone researching the Hamic family of Union and later Knox Co? I have just received the Nat'l Archives Union Army pension file on my g g grandfather William Hamic and his widow, Narcissa Fletcher Hamic. At the time of Wm's death they had a minor child, Abraham Hamic b July 17, 1883. In this file are a statement by a county clerk that he was shown a family Bible with a publication date of 1852, containing a record of this birth which he believed to be an original record and genuine. Also there is a statement by Rutha Fletcher, sister of Narcissa, that she was present at the birth and remembers seeing William Hamic record it in that Bible. Abe Hamic (1883-1956) was married to Leatha Beeler (1885-1956). If there are descendants of this couple out there I will gladly make you a copy of this file and also of a photo of Abe, Leatha and children that was taken about 1911. Interesting Union co footnote - some of the papers in the file are signed by a notary public named James W Taylor, in 1896. Is this Union County's famous J Will Taylor, or maybe his son? Just come down HWY 33 in Maynardville (33 is the main road through Maynardville). The John Deere Center/Store is right smack in the middle of the town on 33. You can't miss it. If you are coming from the North, then you will pass the Court House and it will be a few miles more down the road on the right. The store is also next to the Farm Co-op. Both are plainly on 33 Hwy. If you are coming from LaFollette, Maynardville is on the other side of Norris lake can can be a long drive. The John Deere store may not be what you think it is. It is a center for auto/farm parts and supplies--quite mordern I might add. You will see it easily with all the green John Deere tractors out front. "Sharp and Loy lines" -- now there are a lot of them in Union County. I am good friends with many of the Loys in the Big Ridge side of the county. In case, you don't know, Union County is divided into four main areas: Big Ridge, Myanardville, Luttrell, and Sharps Chapel. Maynardville is the county seat. Big Ridge is home of Big Ridge State Park (and Norris Lake). Sharps Chapel is best known for Chuck Swan's Wildlife Area (hunting and such). And Luttrell is (in my opinion) the most densely populated area and seems to be the place that is expanding the quickest. --Greg

    2. A new message, "Louis Atkins Family in Union/Grainger Co. Tenn./Virg/KY," was posted by Mary Atkins Zwahlen on Tue, 08 Jun 1999 --- NAME: Mary Atkins Zwahlen EMAIL: mzwahlen@wildcatblue.com SURNAMES: Atkins, Monroe, Booker, Hickle DATE: Jun 08 1999 QRYTEXT: I am trying to get information about a Louis/Lewis Atkins who was born in Va. on May 5, 1785 but married Elizabeth Monroe in Granger Co. Tenn. in 1804. All I've read is that he is from Virginia and possibly had a brother Richard, who migrated to Missouri and nothing else. I would like more info on his ancestors. Also his son Elige b May 4, 1814 who was married to Elizabeth Mullens, had a son named William "Arch"(er?)Atkins around 1849 who married Sarah Catherine Booker in Union Co. Tenn. Some sources say she remarried to a Jasper Hickle around 1800. Others say she married Jasper before William Arch. I know that she and Willim "Arch"(er?) had four children---Cordeala b 1871 m A. J. Frost, Mary Ann b 1873 m W. E. Hickle, Gidion Frank b 1875 and William Archie 1877. I also have read that Sarah had two daughters by Jasper Hickle. They are reported to be Laura R. Hickle b Jun 1880 and Margie M. Hickle b Jan 1883 all in Union Co. Tenn but I can't say this info is correct because of the discrepancy in the order of the marriages. I have no idea what happened to the two girls from this Hickle union nor do I know what happened to the two girls from the Atkins union except they were married. I know that Gidion Frank and William Archie migrated to Lincoln Co., KY and this is where their family is! today. Gidion Frank is my Great Grandfather. While the dates above make me believe that William Arch was still in Union Co. when Sara supposedly married Jasper, I'm not sure. Did he die and if so where is he buried? I have no information on what happened to William Arch (er?)Atkins, Jasper Hickle or Sarah Catherine Booker or their daughters. It's like they just disappeared. If anyone has any information on the people I have listed above I would appreciate it if you would share. I have lots of info to exchange also if any one wants it. Thanks. Mary Atkins Zwahlen Kentucky.

    3. Could someone who has access to the marriage records for Union County check and see if you can find a marriage record for a Nervesta or Vesta Jennings between 1885 and 1910. She supposedly married twice in that period, to another Jennings and secondly, after 1900 to John Irwin. She lived in Claiborne County but no marriage record, for either marriage could be found there so I taking a chance that it might have happened in Union County instead. Thanks. Richard Holt
