    2. I have been told that some of you may be getting two copies of each post to this list. If you are let me know and I'll take care of it. There is a fluke in our system that has allowed some people to subscribe twice and therefore get two copies. And I know hearing from me once is bad enough but when you have to read my lectures twice, that's more than most of us could stand. On that Y2K stuff we were talking about yesterday. I may have made lite of it and I don't want anyone to think I'm laughing at it. But honestly, be very careful before you try something someone tells you. The person who made that claim yesterday about the fix, subscribed sent the e-mail and unsubscribed right after. I own a couple more lists and they did it to them too. I have no idea of their motivations but as always if you're in doubt call someone. And finally, on my idea of creating a home made Moon Pie. The problem I am having is in the chocolate coating. Mine is either too thick or two runny. I'll keep you informed. Anybody got any good old fashioned recipes they want to share? I'm off my diet now! Chip Union County TnGenWeb

    3. Chip.....I must also be a crazy because I agree with you. The biggest problems we are going to have going into the year 2000 - are panic and rip-offs. I have always kept 3 months supply of food (not in the freezer either), water, batteries and all emergency equipment. I lived in Florida and now Texas coast. I have done this for twenty five years and only needed them once. This is all I will have when we shout Happy New Year! 2000. I have already had someone call pretending to be from my bank. They wanted to make sure they had my bank account numbers correct in there Y2 program. I told them I worked for the bank and was not aware of that program. They hung up in a hurry. I don't work for the bank. I drive a truck, across USA and Canada. If the rumors about fuel shortages are true, I will be off - fishing. At least I will not starve. Catfish, cornbread (hope my chicken don't hear about Y2K and quit laying) and fresh green onions and collards, cooked by propane.. Yum, Yum! Just can't wait for 2000! Flo in Texas

    3. Flo You go girl! I'm with you. I think that most people want everyone to panic so that they can sell you all the "solutions" for Y2K. Frankly, I don't think it will be as bad as everyone is expecting it to be. If it is, I'll do the best I can. 1. Very Important Windows Y2K Fix
    2. Mary Zwahlen
    3. Mary Atkins Zwahlen Berea, KY mzwahlen@wildcatblue.com I got this email after posing some questions to an online computer friend. This is the message sent to him from his web master at work. I thought it might help someone. "Mary You were asking about the fix for win95/98 for y2k problem. Read the attachment and you will learn how to fix the problem. :) Harvie" All KMR windows users, In an effort to help reduce Y2K problems on the Range, please read the attached document and make the necessary changes to your computer. This fix is good for all Windows 95, 98 and NT computers. Thank you, David S MSN Network Administrator MICROSOFT Y2K DATE FIX 1. Double click on "My Computer". 2. Double click on "Control Panel". 3. Double click on "Regional Settings" icon. 4. Click on the "Date" tab at the top of the page. 5. Where it says, "Short Date Sample", look and see if it shows a "two digit" year. Of course it does. That's the default setting for Windows 95, Windows 98 and NT. This date "Short Date" is the date that feeds application software and WILL NOT rollover in the year 2000. It will roll over to 00 not 2000. 6. Click on the pull down button across from "Short Date Style" and select the option that shows, mm/dd/yyyy. (Be sure your selection has four Y's showing, not two) 7. Then click on "Apply" and then click on "OK" at the bottom.

    2. In a message dated 7/29/99 6:54:57 PM Eastern Daylight Time, kjbrigg@iquest.net writes: << I would recommend going to the Computer Manufactures Web Site and see if they have the online test for your system. OR perhaps the software to make your system compliant. >> I must totally agree with this. Sometimes the problems we cause for ourselves far outweigh any problem Y2K will make for us. The fact of the matter is this, most newer computers will recognize the year 2000. We all know that but there are three more issues that we must look at. 1) Software that is not y2k compliant. The real problem will come from software not system bios. Many people will disagree with me on this point but write it on the wall that Chip said it. 2) The idiot on channel 10 here in Knoxville that they said was an expert. He points at a toaster and says that a toaster may not work in the year 2000. What?! Good grief this guy is called an expert and this is the best he can do? What could possibly happen to a toaster? And no it didn't have a timer it was just your normal run of the mill toaster. Maybe the power grid will fail in our area. Well sure if that happens the toaster won't work. But that's like saying the car won't work because it has no gas. 3) And finally the real problem will come from panic. People taking their money out of banks. People buying gallons of gas. People buying a years worth of groceries. There will be gas shortages, and grocery store shelves will be empty. What we are going to see is what we call in Tennessee a good old fashioned snow scare. The true damage will be to the economy, because of our panic and misinformation sent out by the news media about toasters! Why do we believe the news media anyway? We can all agree that weather men have no brain whatsoever. The only group of people more simple is the news media. After all they're the one's dumb enough to hand the weather man a paycheck. How long would you get a paycheck if you went to work and only got your job right 32% of the time? Now honestly, how many of you right now are saying, "I like this guy Chip but he's a real nut!" Give me any subject and I'll give you a crackpot opinion. Chip

    2. You should also return to the regional settings and make sure the date has not automatically returned to the default setting after you have booted again. Many of my friends computers are doing just that. Doxart
