Those of us here in the Sunshine state got off easy. (By the way the sun did peek out around 5:30 briefly). Thank you to all of you who were thinking about us facing the threat of a huge hurricane and what could have happened had it hit land. We are so fortunate and I hope and pray it continues to lessen and stays at sea for all of those along the North and South Carolina coasts tonight. God Bless, Elizabeth
We have electrical power -- we have telephones -- and now I have a computer unpacked and put back together.............. our immediate area fared much better than the beach areas. We are so thankful. We here in Florida were blessed that FLOYD turned when it did. Even our Governor echoed this thought. We only lost one 50 foot pine tree -- and it only hit other trees and our driveway -- plus some small tree limbs and bushels of leaves. Please send your prayers and thoughts to those in SC and NC -- they will be having the same night tonight (Wednesday) that I had last night. It is a terrible thing to be awake most of the night wondering if your roof will stay put and if any falling trees will hit the house or miss it! Your e-mails (both private and newsletter) certainly help us all. Margie in sunny-tomorrow-Florida
Chip, you are the BEST!!!!! Nina
Well I guess our thoughts and prayers may have been heard. Florida seems to be out of the terrible stuff. If you can call tropical storm and above winds not terrible. Certainly could have been worse though. It seems to be headed now for the Carolinas. Lets once again hope for the best for our list members in those states. I know of three of us from there and at least one lives on the coast. Good Luck to all our list members in the path of this storm, Chip Union County Tngenweb
can anyone tell me where corryton used to sit? i mean, what county does it sit in, and in what county did it sit in previously? my family at one time owned property there, and daddy said they were there for a long time. if anyone can shed some light on this for me, i would be eternally grateful! thanks so much, tina
Chip - You're a nut and a half, but you're a Good Guy nut and a half! My husband and I echo your sentiments. Jan and Bill in California

Hi Just wondering if you were on the web at this time. I have been out and just got in this afternoon and can't seem to find out about the storm. If it was near us in Texas the whole TV and radio network would be bussing. What is it doing now? I have prayed for it to turn before land fall. I many friend and relatives in Fla. Up and down both coast. I also have a son near Savannah GA. Flo Loy Sells in Texas
Thanks for thinking about us down here on this glorified sandbar on the first coast. We have battened down the hatches put away patio furniture and umteen plants. Hope all three glass sliding doors come through this. We have batteries, food, and water. We have secured things and can only hope for the best. We will know by tomorrow afternoon but do not know if we will have power so ........... Out on a limb in Florida Elizabeth
Yes, please do. I heard this hurricane must be very bad than the Hurricane Hugo was for Carolinas. I hope it do get weaker. and move into other path. We all will be praying for you in Florida and Georgia and Carolinas. Mary
As some of you on the list know, several of our members live in Florida. This is a large storm headed their way. I'd like to take this moment to ask that all of you think about our Union County Cousins in Florida and Georgia. Keep them in your thoughts and prayers. If you do live in Florida, remember that the Union County Tngenweb's thoughts are with you all. After it passes, and you get everything back on track, try to drop us a note on the list and let us know you're allright. Good Luck, Chip Union County TnGenWeb

Our computer disks are in large plastic tubs -- as are our photo albums and most of the genealogy records -- but where do you store tubs enough to hold SHELVES of material! Thank goodness for the big size tubs..... Wish all of us on the coast well -- altho FLOYD is turning NW, we are NW of his coordinates now!!!! So far we had only a few showers and breezes. This afternoon and tonight will tell the tale. I just visited my ggggrandparents' (Alexander and Casander LAY HAMILTON) rennovated log cabin in Union County -- It looks more sturdy than the houses here! Especially that root cellar...... Thank all of you and that is a great idea about the plastic containers, I have one available and can go dump some other stuff out of two more. Guess who is behind Floyd, Gert and she seems to be gathering strength. They said it would be a very bad season. Talk to you soon, Ann
Chip thank you for the #, I will tell you why later at this point we are trying to secure the house, prepare for the hurricane. Floyd is larger than Andrew & Hugo. Most of our married life we have lived coastal, but we are in the Orlando area now and the storm is 600 miles in diameter with wind from 150 to 190, no house here can stand those winds. Possibility if it will just go a little to the West and North we could probably handle that. We have been through a lot of hurricanes, one was Donna. We both work and I have to go in in the morning (unless things change sooner) and help finish moving the files to the top drawers because we know our floor at work gets wet in plain old rain. We will leave for GA if Floyd stays on the path he is on now. It would be stupid to stay. If we are able to stay or feel it is alright to stay we will be without power, that goes out on sunny days. If all my papers get wet will all of you help me find some of this stuff again <G>. Will t! alk to you after the storm, I hope. Ann P.
I most certainly can help her. In fact, she sounds like one of my relatives. Could I perhaps get an email address so that I may contact her? Please inform her I am working on the same line and can put her in touch with others as well. Thanks. I got the following letter from a young lady. Can anyone help her? I'd be glad to pass along any notes. She's not a list member. I am searching for information on my great-grandfather, Isaac N. Beeler, who married a Susan or Sarah Smith. He died in 1930 and his property was sold to a man named Ford in 1934. The bottle land is now where Norris Lake is located. The upperland is still timber and is owned by the TVA. I was told that this stand of timber is still referred to as the Beeler place. He ised to get his water from a spring which is now located in a campground that the fishermen get water from. Do you have any information on this man or his family or where they came from?
I lost my address book and have just about finished it with a lot of great help. I do not have your individual email address. Thanks, Ann Poe elderbrooks@msn.com
