Not as civilized down there but they do have Moon Pies. OK here's one for your husband. Ever had a Po-Mack? It was a soft drink short lived in the 70's. It had floating bits of stuff in it. It tasted awful. The Pepsi Corporation test marketed it and Knoxville was one of their markets. Someone circulated the rumor that it had alcohol in it. Well my brother decided (a teenager by the way) to try to get drunk on Po-Macks. So he bought like a case of the Gosh Awful things. Drank them all one afternoon. Well I'm pretty sure they had chunks going down, but there was no question it had them when it came back up. Oh and by the way, it had no alcohol, and the closest Darrell got to drunk was sick. Have a great day, thanks again for taking the poll! Chip Union County TnGenWeb
Who is this Sarah Jane who never had an RC Cola and a moon pie?? How can she exist ? EVERYONE drinks RC and eats moon pies. Two of life's small pleasures.
Dear Chuck, I just took your poll. It was the most fun test I have ever taken. I had to say no to RC Cola and Moon pie but since you didn't ask I must tell you my husband said he grew up on them. You know Knox County is awful close to Union County. Thanks for all the fun you give us. Betty Webb

We've had a good turn out to our poll. Thanks to the results, it looks like we are going to try the chatroom again. We have one this time that requires a password that will be assigned by us. Some of you old timers may remember the fiasco we had with the previous chatroom. Somebody got in there and said words, I've never heard before. The chatroom will be used for all of you to exchange notes in realtime. We also hope to promote some discussions from knowlegeable people from the genealogical community. We're also talking with some people about writing a genealogy tip of the month for the list. These topics will cover normal things about day to day research, great online databases, all the way to how to tell if someone is buried in your backyard! Can't wait on that one. So if you've taken our poll, thanks. If not below is the letter I sent out announcing the poll. Thanks, Chip Want to have some fun and help the page and mail list? Take a few minutes and fill out our poll. It is completely confidential. It's just a chance for us to learn more about each other. Things like what state are we from, do we enjoy R.C. Cola, etc. Plus topics like would you like a chatroom for the mail list members only? So if you have a few minutes drop by: http://www.misterpoll.com/poll.wga?id=1061332918 And take our online poll. This poll is for the mail list only and will not be linked to our homepage. The poll will run for a week or so and I will remind the list two or three times. Filling out the poll will let me have an idea of what you would like to see on the list and on the page. Thanks, Chip Union County USGenWeb P.S. Be kind when you get to the part about what you think of me. I've talked some of the other counties into doing this. They'll laugh at me if their friends rate them higher than my friends rate me.
Hello, Finally someone out there has a name I've been looking for. Arminda Seymour b. 30 Apr. 1859. Was my GGrandmother. I'll be happy to give you what I have. Don't have much. Arminda Seymour b. 30 Apr. 1859 d. 17 Nov. 1941 bur. Luttrell Cemetery, Union Co., TN The information I am getting is that she never married. Her father whom I think is B.F. Seymour from 1870 Census. This information comes from a book called "Our Union County Families" I checked it out from the Halls branch library in Knox. Co. This is how it is listed. B.F. Seymour b. 1825 Mary b. 1831 Arminda b. 1863 Samuel b. 1865 If this is the correct one. Her father could also be known as Franklin Seymour. There is a Franklin listed in the 1880 Census with a daughter named Mindy. My Father has verified that the Minda J. Seymour in the 1910 census is in fact his grandmother. Do you have a copy of this census? You can e-mail me at Doodles687@aol.com Shonda Seymour Haggard
Will someone please look up the following information for me? In the 1870 census: Arminda Seymour (born 4/30/1859) **not listed in 1860 census (perhaps census taken before her birth? In the 1880 census: William Andy Dyer (born 3/17/1872) Thank you! Carol Seymour Parsons

Just received this from another site and thought I'd pass along. Nina Morton T. Good Morning List, Thought this might be interesting to take a look at... Martha List Admn IMMIGRANT SHIPS TRANSCRIBERS GUILD CELEBRATES ITS FIRST ANNIVERSARY BY OFFERING TO THE GENEALOGICAL COMMUNITY THE ISTG COMPASS <http://istg.rootsweb.com/> by Patty MacFarlane Prather <Ships07@aol.com> As mariners depended on their compass, you can count on this special section of the ISTG Web site, which will act as a guide for all and make navigating the roots of your family tree a little easier. Harriet Rosch, resource coordinator, and her crew: Mary Rigali, Sharon Richlen Ballard, Bette Dew, Faith Gibson Tegethoff, Jan Mann, Jane Stauff, Kathy Stice, Barbara T. Grimm, Pat Lisk, Lynn Faranda, Regina Landis, Pat Becker, Penny J. Sabin, Rose Robke, Ruth C. Hakala, Penny Jansen, Deb White, and Maia Cowen are to be applauded for this wonderful addition to the site. Researching the data included in the ISTG Compass took more hours than we can ever imagine. Sheila Jensen Tate, production coordinator, also spent countless hours designing this Web site. The ISTG Compass is a site for young and old alike, with some special attention given to young people who are discovering the value of studying their ancestors and what they left behind, what they endured on the voyage, and how they began to build a new life in a new land. Some of the categories designed to help in your research are: IMMIGRATION & NATURALIZATION BY COUNTRYPORTS & OTHER PLACES OF ENTRY ETHNIC AND IMMIGRATION RESOURCES MARITIME RESOURCES - MUSEUMS/LIBRARIES PASSENGER LIST SITES EMIGRANTS -- By Surname EMIGRANTS -- By Group SHIPS SHIP TYPES & DESCRIPTIONS INDIVIDUAL SHIPS WITH THEIR OWN SITES SHIPPING LINES SHIP IMAGES (These are sites where you may view ship and nautical images/photographs/prints/etc.) SHIPWRECKS BIBLIOGRAPHIES, ARTICLES and MEMOIRS MAIL LISTS SITES OF GENERAL MARITIME INTEREST JUST FOR FUN and MISCELLANEOUS VOLUNTEER HELP SOME OF OUR EMAIL (A few thank you notes for our first year) ACRONYMS and DEFINITIONS -- coming soon. The ISTG Compass will be an ongoing project. The research began 10 months ago and is likely to continue for as many more. One year ago on September 15, 1998, a small group of volunteers began the difficult task of transcribing manifests from the National Archives and Records Administration, putting them on the Web site generously provided to ISTG by RootsWeb, where they would be freely available to all. Today, the Immigrant Ships Transcribers Guild is 450 members strong, has completed its first volume of 1,000 ships' passenger lists, and is almost 500 ships into the second volume of 1,000 passenger lists. ISTG staff members Patty MacFarlane Prather, guild coordinator; Sheila Jensen Tate, productions coordinator; Pam O'Day, surname coordinator; Harriet Rosch, resources coordinator; Marie M. Davis and Mary Beth Arthur, coordinators of new volunteers; Meg Sibbrensen, interpretations coordinator; and David Anderson, correspondence coordinator have given many hours of their time and effort each day to the guild, its volunteers, and its Web site since the first list was uploaded on October 1, 1998. "Each and every guild member is essential to our success," says Patty MacFarlane Prather, guild coordinator. "In addition to the staff members, many volunteers take on the additional tasks of formatting the lists, managing data, and serving on various committees and crews which are critical to the daily operations of this highly visited Web site, which now receives more than 2,000 hits each day." The guild has received thousands of thank you notes from researchers who are grateful to find a Web site devoted to adding passenger lists to the Internet at no cost to them. "We are very grateful to the have the ongoing support and cooperation of Brian Leverich and Karen Isaacson and the RootsWeb staff, Sue Swiggum of Ships-L and Debbie Beavis of Mariners-L, with whom we have a good working relationship, and many other Webmasters with whom we have reciprocal sharing of information in order that it gets maximum exposure." "Like raising a child," Patty concludes, "it takes a village. While the work can be exhausting, the cost of maintaining the project expensive, and the deciphering of the lists frustrating, the rewards are great. I am honored to be working with a group of dedicated and selfless people who share a common passion." You can visit the ISTG Compass at: <http://istg.rootsweb.com>

If you can call tropical storm and above winds not terrible. Certainly could have been worse though. Well for right now, I am in CT and it has been pouring for about two days and the worst hasn't even got here yet. So I am ready. But I will be glad to see the sun when this is all over with. Good Luck to all our list members in the path of this storm, I am sure that we will all survive, it certainly will not be the last one, if we can conquer all the other storms up here in the Northeast we can conquer this. hi there; not sure where they lived in corryton area, but my dad told me that at one time they had a good amount of property, and that they were also in union co., for a long time. my gr grandfather traded the property for food, to last 10 years, during the depression. this makes more sense to me now, because they had relocated to knoxville, and most of them worked in the quarry. when the depression hit, they all lost their jobs, and none of them were farmers. he was a fairly shrewd man :) anyway, if he hadn't of done that, none of us would be here now, and i for one have the greatest respect for him. my grandfather on the other hand, held a great deal of bitterness until the day he died. anywho, if you know of anyone from that area named caldwell, that have been there for what seems like forever, let me know.....trying to locate family and can't get back before knoxville. thanks so much for letting me know where it's positioned. have a great day, tina caldwell panico
I just read the many thanks, we are all thankful and we thank everyone of you. Someone has one in Savannah, my husbands brother and wife are in the Wilmington area along the river. I would think they would have left. GA is fine my daughter and I have been on the tel for two days. We have power, water and tel. not much mess to clean up. Hey I also Ziped my PC and then we put them in plastic. Ann
Thanks to all of you for the prayers and thoughts with Floyd coming toward us last night. We were all safe and sound all over the state. It is one great hurricane and I hope and pray for everyone in his path perhaps Floyd will move a bit and miss them. I hope and pray. I did not realize how many of you live in FL. and how many of you have family here. Thank you so much, I still cannot believe how Floyd missed us, it was windy and it rained, a little trash in the yard. I was slept through most of it until the Amber (our red chow who is getting older and things bother her more). starting walking through the house, around and around, she walked all night. We could not help her we kept giving her hugs. She is fine, she slept all day. Again thank you, Ann
Margie and all, Maybe we should all take a moment and thank God. My son lives near Savannah and left last night. If all goes well they will be going home tomorrow. Remember those that get hit will need supplies. We are gathering things here in the Houston area to send. I drive a truck and have volunteered to take one if necessary with supplies. Those not hit, please share. We have such a caring group. Flo in Texas
Margie So glad to hear that you are safe and not much worse for wear. I have friends and family on the coast of NC. I appreciate your prayers for them.
