    1. Civil War Soldiers Lists
    2. Has anyone heard lately the current status of the Civil War soldiers lists that the National Parks System, with volunteers from various states & the LDS Church were putting together? There have been rumors it was only going to be accessible at the battlefields, there were other rumors that it was going to be available on-line. Does anybody know anything recent?? Thanks, Karen Descendent of a Union county Union soldier

    1. Union County Mail?
    2. Just a note to let you all know that I took care of the person who wondered why they were getting Union County mail. Don't think they really realized what a mail list is. They'll write me back and I'll explain it to them. They probably didn't mean to join. P.S. It's only seven more days till Halloween on the website (I do everything early). Keep your eyes open next Monday. You may find out that some of your ancestors still wander the hills of Union County. Years after their deaths. Chip

    1. Re: Census data
    2. There are a lot of theories on why someone's information doesn't stay the same from census to census, or they don't age in 10 increments, etc. Any of these possibilities may turn out to be true depending on the individual family (except since we can't talk to them, there's no way of answering the question of what is the actual case in OUR family's instance.) 1. Mother answered the questions one year and gave the ages right. 2. Father answered the questions one year & estimated the ages, because he couldn't remember for sure. 3. Mother was embarrassed about being older than dad, and fibbed a little? 4. The family wasn't home so the neighbors answered the questions. 5. The eight year old answered the questions one year, and was really way off, but at least we now know what everybody's nicknames is. 6. The person answering the questions was getting older, & really couldn't remember off-hand how old anybody was. (I wish I could not relate to this one, but I find that I have to stop & figure out some of the ages in my family these days.) As for the places people were born, some people didn't know where their spouse was born, much less where their spouse's parents were born. Not only that, in territorial days, it might have been one territory to start with, and gone through two or three names before it actually became a state. Just some ideas, Karen

    2. Some of the info on union county census on my gggrnadfather James Williamson is listed in 1860 census as James Williams. Those errors make hunting for kin and having only approximate age is really hard to do. Sue

    2. Does anyone know why there are so many errors in the Union County census? I noticed that some of the information, i.e., ages, do not correspond with tombstones. Was there a reason to falsify the information? Also, some of the names are different. Thanks for any help! Carol Parsons

    1. Re: Taylor's Cemetery
    2. Dear Carol, I thank you once again for everything. Thomas and Margarett Miller's graves were relocated to Baker's Forge. The graves are unmarked. That is all I know. I don't know when they died. One member of the family thinks they died between 1860 and 1870. I have no idea if this is true or not. With the proximity of Thomas and Henry G. Miller in the 1860 census, they most likely are related right? Possibly brothers? I appreciate all the help you have given me. Kathy

    2. I don't have the 1870 Union County Census. This is what is listed in the 1860 Union County Census for Henry G. Miller: Miller, Henry G. age 34, male, white, born in TN, Farming R.E. $800.00 P.E. $200.00 Mary age 33, female, white, born in TN, housewife, XRW Nancy age 11, female, white, born in TN, school page 122 James M. age 5, male, white, born in TN July 20th Eliza age 3, female, white, born in TN Lop Creek Farmon (Freeman) age 11/12 male, white, born in TN *** I copied exactly from the book. Also, I found Henry G. Miller and Mary Miller's graves. This information comes from the book "Footprints" from Union County. Cemetery: Bridges Cemetery on Oaks Chapel Road Henry G. Miller, born Oct. 14, 1826, died Sept. 6, 1902 Mary Polly Bridges Miller, born Nov. 30, 1827, died March 22, 1911 Mary was the daughter of Morris Bridges. I looked for Thomas Miller and/or wife Margarett with no luck. Does Thomas have another name such as John Thomas or something similar? Also, if you have any birth or death dates I might be able to match providing they are buried in Union Co. Carol
