    1. Re: [TNUNION] Union County 1850 Census Not Taken?
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: crensch69 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.tennessee.counties.union/2173.1.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I'm looking for more then one surname. They are there in the 1840 Claiborne County census, missing for the 1850, and then they show up in the Union County census for 1860. My theory is that the section of Claiborne County that formed into Union was missed for the 1850 census. This again is just a theory. I have hunted for these families everywhere, using various spelling variations and I cannot locate any of them. It wouldn't be such an issue if it was just one family &/or surname but that isn't the case for me. Would like to know if other researchers for this area is having the same problem as I am. Thanks! 3. I don't have any verifiable information on this, but I have some of the same problems. I have found people on the 1850 census in Claiborne or Campbell counties who later ended up in Union Co, so the census was taken. But I also have other people who didn't show up at all. My theory is that in 1850 there were some uncertainties about whether Union Co had actually been correctly created, so in the area where these three counties now join up some areas may not have been checked because each person thought somebody else was supposed to do it. > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: crensch69 > Surnames: Honeycutt > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.tennessee.counties.un > ion/2173/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > Union County was formed in 1850 from Anderson, Campbell, Claiborne, Grainger > and Knox counties. Most likely in 1850 they should still be in Claiborne and/or Campbell Co. Most people didn't move the name of the county they were living in changed to Union Co in 1860 census. Did you find them in 1870 census in Union Co? Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
