Don't forget to crank up the old victrola and play "Maple on the Hill" while you're eatin' that Moon Pie and drinkin' the R.C. Joyce
Hi All: I agree! This is the only list that I have subscribed where I have cheered for successes, shed tears for some individuals and their situations, and laughed so much over the things said on this list. Keep it going. You need an RC Cola to go with it. Nothing like sitting on the front porch late at night with a RC Cola and a Moon Pie. I'm with you. I joined this list to find ancestors and haven't found any. I really enjoy it so I stay. Someone gave me Chip's email address when I was just starting to try and research my family. They said he was a nice person and loved to help people. I emailed him and he helped me a lot. I had no idea at the time that he was listowner for Union county. Shoot, I didn't even know what a listowner was at that time. I was one of those people with a new computer and for lack of anything else to do with it decided to do research. I barely knew how to use the computer much less do research. I had called the library in Scott County and they gave me Chip's email and his name. Chip is a wonderful person and I consider him a good friend. Chip makes this list. Rae
I joined this list because someone told me he belived someone had a book on early ministers.. I posted the question and no reply.. about that time I think the subject was maybe roadkill recipes.. I stay and I laugh and I cry and say prayers for people that perhaps could use them. I only wish I could find one of my ancestors residing in Union county.. maybe I could then say.. now I know where my wacky sense of humor comes from. I giggled at the joke.. and am said to see what is happening with the election but its all part of life. Thanks to everyone for letting me mostly lurk and get to know y'all. I can say that word really good.. my little granny was from TN.. just another county... and so many of my kin were thru this state.. I have never had a moon pie.. I am deprived. Hi all, I've finally figured out why my gg grandparents moved to Union Co. It's because of the really nice folks who either lived there, are had lived there. Couldn't have been for any other reason! I'm in total agreement with Chip and everyone - a better list can be found nowhere!! Joyce

I have several mailing lists and won't call any names but I was beginning to believe that the members of one of them had all passed away! I am happy to report that they are all alive and kickin....Most of them wanting to kick me for sending that joke to the list....LOL At least I got their attention...LOL Rae
Chip in a few days I will have 2 dozen Moon Pies that I ordered and I will supply the place to order from Bob Dyer
1) New stuff in Union County 2) Union County Mystery 3) Recipes? 1) New stuff in Union County Okay, I've been doing some work and not just dreaming of Moon Pies. I almost have the next set of marriage records finished. But, here is something you might be interested in. I did some maps that show the boundary changes, old towns and what not from 1835. It shows the way Campbell, Grainger, Anderson, Claiborne and Knox counties looked before Union County was formed in 1850. Now, how does that help you? Well, if your family was here before 1850 they had to live in one of the other counties. If you know the area they lived in you can look at these maps and see what county they were in. They're large and may take a while to load: http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnkin/maps/chboun.htm 2) Union County Mystery I recently got an old map of the area as they proposed Norris Lake. At one time Union County was going to be taken as a whole to make a new National Park called Tennessee National Park. The map is from the US Army Engineers and I can't find anyone that knows about it. 3) Recipes? I am starting that recipe page I promised some time back. I will be asking you all to send me those old recipes again. As soon as I'm ready we'll get on it. Chip

I'm not talking about the election really as much as the media coverage. They keep breaking in today on CNN saying "Breaking News" then when they start talking they say..."nothings changed." I'll be glad when it's all over so CNN can start another scandal. By the way, if you're all interested, you can read my election thoughts at: http://www.maynardville.com/article/f3.htm Chip

I think perhaps our GG grandparents helped Union County to be the special place it must be even today. Many of the helpful people on this list come from those special ancestors or ours and carry many of the same thoughtful traits. And I a HOOSIER appreciate all of them. I love my TN Roots. I think we all know by now...that Chip is the glue that holds this list together. To think of being here without him is like .....well.....cookies without Chips! <grin> dusti
Chip, I love moon pies and Rc cola and peanuts in the Rc! I love being in Tennessee with family on the holidays. I Love finding more family on this list! Thanks for all that you do, Patricia
Thank you Chip. I appreciate you and this list so much. Greetings from Palm Beach County, Florida....the most famous county in the USA (at least currently). I suppose if I lived in Tennessee, this might appear funny. Actually, it's kind of scary living in the middle of all this! Does the site tolerate horror stories? Would someone in Tennessee please do something to make Jesse Jackson leave Florida? Florida is the fraud state...Bush may be ahead now, but Gore will win...far too much skullduggery going on. This cat...well bless his heart I love him but he's dumb as a rock. Chip PS I'd love to have a Moon Pie about now.
This list has more just plain humanity than any other.
