Posted on: Union Co. Tn Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tn/Union/834 Surname: SHELTON ------------------------- James C. Shelton, of Union County, son of Margaret Shelton, shot and killed an uncle when he (James) was ABOUT 17 years of age. The incident happened in Grainger County during the fall hunting season and he was taken to the Rutledge jail. I am trying to determine who the uncle was that was killed. Of course, any other information would be welcome as Margaret was my ggrandmother. Thanks Sue Lewis
Dear Sue, Look in Knox & Seviere County for their list of prisoners ~ I know I have seen one of them on the web. They probably would have been taken to a larger jail for a more serious crime. Cindy Sue
Posted on: Union Co. Tn Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tn/Union/832 Surname: Collins ------------------------- HI - we haven't communicated in a while. Is Maynard the son of John Erwin? The 80 Union Co census shows a Maynard 20 married and d-i-l as Jane 18,maybe her name was Sarah Jane. There are in the home of John Erwin Collins (52) and his wife Sarah (36), so maybe they called her Jane to cut down on confusion. I did not find any other Boyd's living in Union CO in 1880, but there were some Boyd families in Grainger CO. You mentioned you didn't know how long they stayed in Union Co. Do you know where they went?
Posted on: Union Co. Tn Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tn/Union/831 Surname: Guy, Taylor ------------------------- Glad I could be of help to you. I enjoy helping people find their roots! I was basing her DOB on the fact that she was ll in the census. I was also going to suggest you try KY as it isn't far from Claiborne County. Maybe you will have some luck there.
Hello, I am new to the list and I am hoping that someone can help me on my TURNER lines. The furthest back I have been able to get is Lewis R. TURNER b. bet. 1831-1835 TN. He later moved to AR. He was married 3 times and I have found him different counties in AR. Lawrence, Izard, and Sharp Counties. I am trying to find him in TN but have had no luck yet. There are some names that could be family names such as Cicero, Albert, Edgar, Pink, Martha, James, Thomas, and Robert. Some of these Turner children also married into the Sharp families. If anyone can help me it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, Queet Jaco
Posted on: Union Co. Tn Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tn/Union/830 Surname: GUY, TAYLOR ------------------------- Thanks for the information - it will help my search. I am pretty sure that James Guy came from Claiborne County. It looks like he crossed the border into Union county to get married. Until recently I haven't been able to locate any information about his Wife who is named as Sabra/Sabie on some census records. Where are you getting her birthyear information from? (you mention she would be 1 in 1850). One of the claiborne country census records shows her birth in August, 1849 - which seems to match your information. The 1880 Census lists here birthplace as Kentucky, while all the 1900 shows it as Tennessee. I can now check both states using her family name.

They were married Sept 1877. What I am trying to find out who their children were if they had any. I'm not sure if they lived in Union County for long. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Julie [email protected]
Posted on: Union Co. Tn Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tn/Union/828 Surname: Guy, Taylor ------------------------- In the Union Co Marriage Book 1854 - 1925, I find James N. Guy md to Sebasa Taylor on 13 Aug 1868, as you said. In the 1860 Union Co census, there is a Sabra Taylor ll listed in the home of C. J. (49) and Nancy (42) Owens. Don't know the relationship. There are no Taylor families in Union Co in 1860, but quite a lot in Grainger Co. Only one Guy family in Union in 1860, but it is not your James N. Guy family. Did not find any Guy families in the 1860 Grainger Co. If you can get access to the 1850 Tn census, you should be able to find Sabra as she should be l year old. You might want to check adjacent counties such as Anderson, Knox, Claiborne for information on the Guy and Taylor families. Good luck in your search.
Guy-Taylor: According to the TENNESSEE UNION COUNTY MARRIAGE APPLICATIONS AND LICENSES 1864-1900, James N. Guy and Sabasa (?) Taylor were married either 12 or 13 August 1868 by William Williams, MG ( Minister of the Gospel ). Ruth Betz

Since the anniversary of 12/7/1941 is coming up this week, I felt it might be OK to send this. Click here: Stephen E. Ambrose, author of Citizen Soldier, Undaunted Courage, and D-Day and Biographer of Eisenhower and Nixon The site address (in case the link does not work) to find out more is below just in case anyone is interested in this. http://www.stephenambrose.com/pacific.html I ran into this site this AM and hope it is OK to pass it on. Mr. Ambrose is looking for WWII Veterans Pacific Experiences for a book he is working on. My Dad (and his TN roots :) was in the Pacific and at Pearl Harbor on 12/7/1941. I have typed up a little that he has told me about his experiences that day. I think it is important to gather these veterans experiences before they are all gone and preserve for future generations. In doing research on any family lines in Union County, has anyone come across a David Bowen? He is my gg grandfather and I can't get past him in researching this line. All I know is that he married Serena "Sarah" Strevel in 1877 and they had two sons Miles "Doc" Bowen and my great grandfather Andrew Jackson Bowen. I can't find an 1880 census listing for them anywhere in Tennessee, but both sons said they were born in Tennessee and my great grandfather was born roughly about 1880. I thought because they weren't listed in any of the transcribed 1880 censuses for Union County that they had left and went elsewhere, but I now believe their listing probably was on one of the pages of the 1880 census that has faded away. I found from looking at the microfilm that there are several pages of that census for Union County where the info has completely faded away, probably the result of water damage from the fire that destroyed the 1890 census. Anyway, I just wanted to post a message to see if any might have come across this name in their research. The only record I can find for him is his marriage record in 1877. Richard Holt
