    1. Message from Santa
    2. Here folks. One with a 'southern flavor". :) dusti A message from Santa: I regret to inform you that, effective immediately, I will no longer be able to serve Southern United States on Christmas Eve. Due to the overwhelming current population of the earth, my contract was renegotiated by North American Fairies and Elves Local 209, and I now serve only certain areas of Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Wisconsin and Michigan. As part of the new and better contract, I also get longer breaks for milk and cookies, so keep that in mind. However, I'm certain that your children will be in good hands with your local replacement who happens to be my third cousin, Bubba Claus. His side of the family is from the South Pole. He shares my goal of delivering toys to all the good boys and girls; however, there are a few differences between us. Differences such as: 1. There is no danger of a Grinch stealing your presents from Bubba Claus. He has a gun rack on his sleigh and a bumper sticker that reads: "These toys insured by Smith and Wesson." 2. Instead of milk and cookies, Bubba Claus prefers that children leave an RC cola and pork rinds [or a moon pie] on the fireplace. And Bubba doesn't smoke a pipe. He dips a little snuff though, so please have an empty spit can handy. 3. Bubba Claus' sleigh is pulled by floppy-eared, flyin' coon dogs instead of reindeer. I made the mistake of loaning him a couple of my reindeer one time, and Blitzen's head now overlooks Bubba's fireplace. 4. You won't hear "On Comet, on Cupid, on Donner and Blitzen ..." when Bubba Claus arrives. Instead, you'll hear, "On Earnhardt, on Wallace, on Martin and Labonte. On Rudd, on Jarrett, on Elliott and Petty." 5. "Ho, ho, ho!" has been replaced by "Yee Haw!" And you also are likely to hear Bubba's elves respond, "I her'd dat!" 6. As required by Southern highway laws, Bubba Claus' sleigh does have a Yosemite Sam safety triangle on the back with the words "Back Off." The last I heard it also had other decorations on the sleigh back as well. One is a Ford or Chevy logo with lights that race through the letters and the other is a caricature of me (Santa Claus) going wee wee on the Tooth Fairy. 7. The usual Christmas movie classics such as"Miracle on 34th Street" and "It's a Wonderful Life" will not be shown in your negotiated viewing area. Instead, you'll see "Boss Hogg Saves Christmas" and "Smokey and the Bandit IV" featuring Burt Reynolds as Bubba Claus and dozens of state patrol cars crashing into each other. 8. Bubba Claus doesn't wear a belt. If I were you, I'd make sure you, the wife, and the kids turn the other way when he bends over to put presents under the tree. 9. And finally, lovely Christmas songs have been sung about me like "Rudolph The Red-nosed Reindeer" and Bing Crosby's "Santa Claus Is Coming to Town." This year songs about Bubba Claus will be played on all the AM radio stations in the South. Those song titles will be Mark Chesnutt's "Bubba Claus Shot the Jukebox"; Cledus T. Judd's "All I Want for Christmas Is My Woman and a Six Pack", and Hank Williams Jr.'s "If You Don't Like Bubba Claus, You can Shove It."

You have finally answered by quetions regarding Palestine. Who would have thought there were two. My Palestine is the one married to Nathaniel Popejoy and she did have brother's Booker and Bogg. Finally I can put her to rest. Now if I could just find Nathaniel with his first wife Pbebe C. Damewood about 1870 then the search for this family will be over. Pat

    3. Posted on: Union Co. Tn Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tn/Union/848 Surname: Dyer, Hill, Vandergriff ------------------------- I searched for these folk in the Union Co census, but did not find anything. Checked Grainger Co 1870 and find Ephratus 26, Elmira M. 23, Sarah S. 9, Palistine 8, Cora 5, Dick 4, Duck l and Martha 3 months. In 1880 Grainger Co I find E. E. 37, E. M. 36, Sarah L. 18, Booker 13, Wisence 12, Cora 8, Ona 7, Netty 5, Bogg 3, and Narcissa 7 months. Palestine 17 is living nearby as md to a Nathaniel Popejoy 33. In the 1870 census Nathaniel 23 is living with a Phebe 19. In the 1860 census Nathaniel 13 in home of Edward 36 and Mary A. 39 Popejoy. In all three census records, there are Popejoys and Vandergriffs living nearby. There are several articles on Dyers in the Grainger Co TN and Its People 1796 -1998, but most deal with the Dyers who left Grainger Co. I believe you have posted this before. I hope this is the family you are looking for. Let me know if I can be of further help.

    3. Chip, It was in this weeks LaFollette Press. It is online at http://www.lafollettepress.com/ They have a link for email address. Even though it is online, I still go out & buy my copy. All the news isn't on the one they put online, like the full story about the releasing of the elk. Had you heard about that? We are finally getting elk back in our counties. There hasn't been elk here since the 1800's! Very exciting! Bobbie

    3. Chip, I sure enjoyed your poem on Month Before Christmas! LOL Also love reading the letters to Santa every year in our local paper in Campbell Co. so I enjoyed those you sent! I wanted to share a Front Page story that a 14 yr. old girl in the Stony Fork area wrote. After reading the story, I found this girl is wise beyond her years, for she already knows what is most important! Bobbie "What I Want for Christmas" Age 14, 9th grader, Stony Fork School It's that time again, Christmas is almost here. Every store is having a sale, the children are eagerly awaiting the arrival of Santa Claus, and parents are preparing for that special day with their loved ones. Christmas is a day that not all people celebrate. Christmas has always been a special time for me though. All of my family would come to my house Christmas Eve to open gifts, then go to my aunt's house for Christmas dinner. I never realized how special that was to me until Christmas Eve, 1999. I woke up to find it snowing, which I wanted in the first place, but I soon learned that some of my family couldn't make it to my house to open presents because they were snowed in. They live in the Caryville Mountains and the ice was so bad on the roads that it was impossible to travel. My sister, brother-in-law, and niece were able to get across the mountain, but they were the only ones. It was the first time that I had been away from my family on Christmas Eve. I was so sad, but none of my family seemed to notice. I was able to be with them on Christmas, but it still wasn't the same. I decided then that what I will always want for Christmas, is to always be with my family. You can't buy my present at a store, only God can give me that. In April my dad was diagnosed with lung cancer. I felt so empty inside when the doctors told me that dad wouldn't get out of the hospital's ICU. When I looked at the future then, I saw a very sad time for me. The doctors were surprised when dad recovered. About a month and a half ago the doctors told my dad that the cancer was gone. He might have to have precaution treatments, but at least he will be able to be with me on Christmas. God answered my prayers then and I know he will always be with me through everything. What I want doesn't cost anything, but it's priceless. I want material things too, but nothing is as important to me as being with my family. Some people think that the price of a gift is what matters, but the truth is that the thought is what really counts the most. When some of my friends were talking about what they wanted for Christmas, I couldn't help but think that if they would only realize how lucky they are just to be with their family. A lot of my family died when I was very young and I have missed them a lot over the years. I wish I could have just one Christmas with all of them here, but that will never happen. Some people don't realize what they have until it's gone. Christmas isn't my favorite time of year, but it is special to me because Christmas is the day that Jesus was born. People have changed the meaning over the years, but they will never change the fact that Jesus saved us all. I guess Christmas means a lot of different things to me. When I get older and have children, I want them to know everything about Christmas, not just the part about giving gifts to one another. Life is very hard and no one is ever prepared for it. Christmas is a time to forget about what is going on at work or at school to focus on what really matters. I might be young, but I know what I want out of life. Sometimes I might get confused, but God always puts me back on the right path. In conclusion, Christmas is a time to celebrate the birth of Jesus, be loved, and a time to be with the people you love most. I know my answer doesn't quite fit the question, but there is never a wrong or right answer to what people want for Christmas or any other time of year.
