Author: rockhunter83 Surnames: Sharp, Oaks, Ernwine, Ellison Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.tennessee.counties.union/2182/mb.ashx Message Board Post: I am searching for some proof for this man and am hoping someone may know. A William H Sharp married Lucinda Ellison about 1888. They had 2 children, Maggie b-1890 and Charlie b-1893. William and Lucinda broke up and apparently divorced. I believe that it is this William who married Nancy Ann Ernwine in 1898. The 1910 Union County census states that it is his 2nd marriage. What I need to prove, is his parents. We believe that his parents were William Henry Sharp and Elender Oaks (When Elender died in 1877, William married Mary Trent). I need something that says that is true. An obituary for example. But so far we can't find anything at all. Their daughter Maggie was living with John Edward Sharp in 1900. She was around 9 or 10, which would have been the right age. She is listed as his great niece. John Edward Sharp was the Uncle of William Henry Sharp(H/O Elender). Also there was an Isaac Parker living next door to them at the time. Maggie was killed by a train in 1929 and the informant on her death certificate was Isaac Parker. Charlie lived with his mother's parents in 1900, the Ellisons. He then entered the army and moved away from TN, ending up in Alabama. We are trying to prove that Charlie was the grandson of William Henry and Elender Oaks Sharp. I am truly hoping that someone can help us with this? Thanks so much! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. A DVD containing over 8300 files of obituaries & death notices from 1909 to Feb. 2011 was created by Don Sanford & donated to the Union County Cemetery Association to sell as a fund raiser for cemetery preservation & upkeep. Most all obits tie to Union & Claiborne County, TN. families. The obits were scanned from news print & copies of pages of scrapbooks of families from Union County. This collection, provided by several individuals, includes 572 obits from The Powell Valley Association of Primitive Baptists, years 1906 - 1970 which are titled "PVPB" following the person's name. All obits are in alphabetical order by last name, first, etc. & were scanned using JPEG & PNG files on Windows O.S. 586 obits from 1999 - Feb. 2011.are in Word document which will require Microsoft Word to open & view these files. After the Word files were entered another collection containing printed copies during this same time frame was added which created 63 duplicates. Some files are not perfectly aligned. To order the UCCA Obit DVD, send check or money order for $40.00 to UCCA - Obit DVD, P.O. Box 1315. Maynardville, TN. 37807 or pay online via credit card through Pay Pal by visiting the UCCA on the web at: (http://www.usgennet.org/usa/tn/county/union2/fundraisers.htm) Allow up to two weeks for USPS delivery. Price includes shipping & handling in US. (For shipments outside the continental limits, including Alaska & Hawaii, please contact us before hand with the shipping address to get the cost of mailing). To save production costs & return more funds to the UCCA, the DVD is not labeled. It is in a jewel case which has a stick on label. The DVD will be mailed in a padded envelope. Do not let the history of your family, business, church, club, home, organization or event be left out! The Pellissippi Genealogical and Historical Society (PGHS) is helping to compile a book of pre-1970 historical photographs of Anderson County to be published as part of Arcadia Publishing‘s Images of America series. The Pellissippi Genealogical and Historical Society is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded in 1980 to help preserve the history and genealogies of our communities. All profits from its sale of the book will be used by PGHS to further its efforts in historical preservation. If you want to have your photographs included in the book, you must have them scanned by Stephanie Hill of PGHS. Photographs must be originals and can include real photo post cards. Two dates have been set for scanning at the Clinton Library in Clinton, TN. Please bring your original photographs to the library’s meeting room for scanning on Tuesday, March 8, from 4 to 6 PM or on Saturday, March 26, from 11 AM to 2 PM. If you cannot attend either of those scanning sessions, but have original photographs you want scanned for the book, please contact Stephanie Hill at 426-8657 before March 30, 2011. PGHS maintains a library of local history and genealogy books and members are willing to assist anyone working on their family history and genealogy. The Society meets on the 4 th Thursday of each month and membership is open to the public. Keep Your Place in History - bring your original photographs to be scanned. You do not have to leave your photographs with anyone or have them sent off to be copied; the scanning will be done while you wait. If you want to write a history of your photograph(s), please write it before you come to the scanning session. The Clinch Bend Chapter, NSDAR, did a Bible Project which is similar to the scanning being done by PGHS, and have agreed to take a supporting role in facilitating the scanning sessions. They are not affiliated with the project and will not receive any proceeds from the sale of the book by PGHS. Chapter members are looking forward to the sale of the book because of the genealogical history that the book will contain should the community bring in original family photographs to be included.

Several Union County Cemeteries are now listed on Find A Grave where many memorials have marker photos and links to other family memorials. These cemeteries can be linked from the UCCA home page @ http://www.usgennet.org/usa/tn/county/union2/index.htm -----Original Message----- From: tnunion-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:tnunion-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of GeneHelper@aol.com Sent: Friday, February 11, 2011 7:15 AM To: TnUnion@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [TNUNION] Which Book "Our Union Co Heritage" Should I buy? Let me add that in a related category of material (no pictures or family s tories but a wealth off family information), put the Ailor Mortuary books on your list of materials to get at some point. I also like the Footprint book of the cemeteries. Although I know a lot of cemetery books done in the style of Footprints, I have to say that I was disappointed in that the author alphabetized each cemetery (unnecessary when there's an index in back) and also loses the context of individual families when everyone with the same name gets lumped together alphabetically. As much as I love that book, it is a never ending frustration when I can't figure out who some people belonged to, or if they're from a different branch of the family, or no connection, just having the same name (as in the case of the really common names.) In the ones we're doing here in Omaha, NE (lots more graves, lots of cemeteries), we're leaving the rows intact, and we include everything written on the marker, plus a rough description of the art work because it may give clues to the person's (or the family's) belief system/interests, etc. Karen In a message dated 2/10/2011 5:43:19 P.M. I never got to meet Chet, but in the years we corresponded prior to his death, I grew to really appreciate that side of the family. My Aunt Beverly was very musically talented and played several musical instruments very well (I play the radio), so I think the musical genes kind of got diluted when they got to me. Thanks for sharing that memory with me, Clara. (I wonder if we're related--the more I research, the more I think that somehow or other, I'm related to half of Union county by blood or marriage.) The main ones I'm working on are Atkins, Booker & Monroe, though I work on some of the shirt tails and descendents of all the cousins, etc as well. Karen In a message dated 1/29/2011 11:34:58 A.M.
