I grew up in this area and the grammer school was at one time named Phelan and it was located next to the Charleston Cemetery. Charleston Baptist Church is accross the road and Methodist Church on the other side of the cemetery. Cemetary is very old and has markers on most graves including some dating back to early 1800's. my great aunt told me that the charleston, tn. area was trying to change their name to phelan because there was another charleston tn. my gg-grandfathers obit. has him buried(1919) in phelan. now they call it charleston. located outside mason tn. between covington and staton
