My best guess is that George Howard, William, and your John were all brothers. If that is the case their father was a Tom Howard from Middle TN I believe. This is a line of mine that I am just working with. George Howard had several children---1 was a William. I am not sure if there was a John but it should not be hard to find out. Many of George Howard's children are buried in or around Covington in Tipton County. If I understood you --John and William (brothers of George) / or was it John and his wife / died in Yellow fever epidemic--soooooooooo he very well may have named children after his brothers-------don't you think? As far as learning about your 'John'--George's brother most likely--I am not sure how to help. I grew up in Tipton County and now live in Shelby County. The Shelby County library may have a list of those who died in the epidemic with additional information about them. That is a long shot since the Yellow Fever hit with such force that there may have been no time for many recordings. Do you have any grave site information, or possibly occupation information. This family was know and respected in Tipton County--as I think would to be the case as well in Shelby. This certainly helps when researching persons of this era or earlier. If you would like cemetey lookups for Atoka and Munford I am glad to try on the internet. As far as going to the graves for tombstone pictures------it will have to wait till spring. I have arthritis also so cold weather is not my friend. My e-mail address is dstroth1@midsouth.rr.com. Let me know exactly what I can do to be of help.
