I will have our ILL staff check to see if there is any charge through the library system at Shelby County. I'll place an order form myself and see what restrictions they put on it. Many libraries have a reciprocating agreement. "You don't charge us, and we won't charge you." I know the Shelby County genealogy section is extremely busy, but $35 per page???? Our library would charge 10 cents for the price of the copy, if someone lived locally and could do the research themself, but we charge nothing for ILL requests. Regarding a post I replied to a few days ago (see below) concerning TIPTON COUNTY, TN MARRIAGES, 1840-1874 by Sistler and Sistler, I have done some sleuthing. This book is available at approximately 40 libraries throughout the United States. It would be superfulous for me to list all of them here. It is not up to you, the borrower, to seek out the location of these books, that is the librarian's job, which is done by computer and through a special database. The easiest way to get information from this book is to do the following: 1. Go to your closest library that participates in InterLibraryLoans (ILL). 2. Give your librarian the following information: Type of Source: Book Title: TIPTON COUNTY, TN MARRIAGES, 1840-1874 Authors: Sistler and Sistler 3. Specify that you wish to use a non-charging library, which will illiminate Shelby County Library at $35/page. 4. If the lending library will not allow you to ILL the entire book, tell your librarian that you would like to have a second option. This would be for a request for a copy of the entire index of the book. 5. Once you have this copy of the index, you can request copies of those specific pages needed through a second ILL to the same library. An experienced ILL librarian will understand what you are seeking and will be able to communicate this to the lending library. I did ILL's for several years before moving to the Reference Dpt. and this was not an uncommon request. For those who would prefer to hold the book in their hands without going through ILL, if you will contact me and tell me your location, I will tell you the nearest library that has this holding.
