Martha, I also have family buried in the Munford Cemetery in Covington, I dont have a digital camera but would take regular pictures for you if you would like. Let me know. Cheri Walker Reeves
I tried for several years to locate the records after being told that they did not exist. I located and spoke with a man in the 1980s who worked for the funeral home for a long time and retired in the late 60s to early 70s and he told me that there were ledger books that went back for decades and some came from previous funeral homes that were absorbed by Mally. He thought some of the records were from as early as 1900. He said they had the name of the deceased, Date of Death, Date of Service, amount, who was responsible for the bill and in some cases the cemetery. The sad part is, he told me that he thought the older ledger books were thrown away when they moved from their location off the square. I asked the folks at Mally Yarbrough about this and they said it was probably true because they did not have any of the older records and had inquired themselves as to what might of happened to them. I have always hoped that someone might have rescued them and they were laying around somewhere, but it doesn't seem very likely at this point. -----Original Message----- From: gc-gateway@rootsweb.com [mailto:gc-gateway@rootsweb.com]On Behalf Of Genbiz2849@aol.com Sent: Wednesday, August 21, 2002 5:27 AM To: TNTIPTON-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [Tipt'n] Malley Yarbrough Funeral Records This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. My late mom's(Margie Crunk Shelton) cousin --William Robert Eckford--owned the funeral home when it was in downtown Covington. He passed away a number of years ago. I'm not sure who owns it now but it's not in downtown Covington in the orig location. I do know that the Munford cemetery is now owned by the city of Covington and that you can call city hall for info. Also, the city library in Covington has burial listings that I think were done by the DAR. I don't live near there--I'm over in Northwest Arkansas--or I'd try to help you. Also, I'd like to find somebody in the Covington area that would occassionally put flowers out for me at the Munford cememtery on my parents and grandparents graves. Is there anybody interested--I'd send some $ for you to go to WalMart or somewhere like that and then would appreciate a digital pic scanned to me so I can see them. Just email me if interested. I live in Alma, Arkansas--just outside of Van Buren and Fort Smith--and would gladly do that if anybody has family bured here--anybody interested??? Just email me. Thanks, Martha (Shelton) Forrest Alma, AR
I cannot answer your question, but I can tell you that the county oversees some of the rural cemeteries. Each cemetery has its own governing committee. You might try contacting someone in the Tipton County administration to see if this cemetery has such a committee. Searching for information regarding Elisha VINZANT b. Unknown in Tennessee (county unknown) and d. 1844 in Newton County, Missouri. In 1900 census, David shows father being born in Tennessee. Brother indicates father born in France. Could this be because France claimed a section of Tennessee when Elisha was born? So many questions and unfortunately, so few answers. Elisha and Ellender are very evasive. I have been searching 30 plus years and have found nothing. Any help is appreciated! Hi Albert, We have corresponded in the past. However, at the time, I did not have near the info that I have now :o) Ada Frances McIntosh was a sister of my Ggrandmother, Mary Catherine "Kate" McIntosh. My Ggrandfather was Robert Alexander Huffman, a distant cousin of Wm. Benjamin Huffman. I have pictures of Robert A. and Kate Huffman. I'll be happy to share them with you. Actually, I have quite a few of Grandma Kate's "things" (what-nots, pictures, obits, etc.) . Unfortunately, no pictures of James Sweeny McIntosh unless my uncle has one in the pictures we can not identify. Do you have one of him or any of the other children by any chance? My mother (deceased 2000) was Mary Frances Huffman, daughter of Hugh McDonald Huffman. She was named after Mary Catherine and Ada Frances :o) I have wanted to have a Huffman reunion, but can't seem to generate any interest in it :o( Good to hear from you and feel free to email me privately if you like.
