Surnames: Paine, Payne, Shelton, Pain, Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/jgB.2ACE/1049 Message Board Post: I'm in search of Mary Elizabeth Paine/Payne b. 16 July, 1839 possibly in Mason, Tipton, TN. Found a Mary E. 10 female b. TN in the home of Sabaston Payne 24 male b. TN, Thands (sp?) 18 male b. TN, Lucus 15 male b. TN, Manerva 13 female b. TN, and Elizabeth 50 female b. VA. This Mary E. may have married John Robert Shelton of Giles Co. TN. >From the way the census was written, I might conclude that Sabaston was her brother and head of the house after the father's death. The mother (?) Elizabeth is in the house with them. What might be another son Daniel 20 male b. Ala was living nearby with Elizabeth A. 17 female b. TN. When looking thorugh 1880 census, no sign of Sabaston, Lucus, or the Thands. Not strange if they all fought in the Civil War. Does this sound familiar to anyone? Thanks for any help, Ginger

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/jgB.2ACE/232.536 Message Board Post: Hi Mary ann, I can't help you with Alexander's parents but I can give you some information on his wife, Elizabeth. She was born in Fairfield District, SC in abt. 1799. Her maiden name was Boyles. She was the daughter of John Boyles and Margaret Walker McClerkin Boyles. Margaret Walker was b. in 1765 in VA and was still living in Fairfield District, SC in 1850. Margaret married John McClerkin in abt. 1785 and had two sons, James and Andrew. Her husband died suddenly in 1792 and shortly thereafter she married John Boyles. She had seven children by Boyles with Elizabeth being her second born daughter. Elizabeth married Alexander Tennant in abt. 1818 in Fairfield District, SC. James McClerkin migrated to Tipton Co, TN with his family in abt.1830 along with many other families from Fairfield Co, SC. Andrew Walker, Margaret McClerkin Boyles' brother, was in this same group. Mary Ann Tennant married Joseph B. Walker (relationship unknown) in Tipton Co on January 12, 1850 and he apparently died or they separated. On February 14, 1855 Mary Ann then married William Franklin Delashmet in Tipton Co. They had three known children. William Delashmet was a nephew of Elizabeth Delashmet who married Margaret Walker's younger brother, Jeremiah, in abt. 1799, also in Fairfield District, SC. This latter couple are my wife's gggrandparents. FrankTrowbridge

I knew when I talked to the lady at the office about them, she told me they didn't have them. I asked her who did and she wouldn't say. So keeping them in the basement of the funeral home doesn't do any good. You would think they would at least send them to the Tennessee Archives in Nashville so everyone could see these. Thank you.

Unfortunately, according to the owner of the business, most old records are packed in boxes in the basement of the funeral home, and the limited personnel does not permit time for exploration of any records. So unless you're looking for someone who recently passed away, you'll have to search another avenue.
