    3. Reply to Steve Purdue; My gg-grandparents Ben H & Sallie Luerzine Matilda (GRIFFIN) ROBERTS were married in Sumner county and my g-grandmother was one of the children born in TN before the family migrated to AR by way of IL and KY. Their youngest child was born in Fayetteville, Washington County, AR according to family sources. Ben's brother George ROBERTS (b 28 Sep 1829) married Catherine LINK also in the Sumner county area. George and Catherine were living in the Washington County AR in the 1880's near their daughter Mary Jane and her husband James R. POND. George died in Paris, TX 14 Jul 1883. He was apparently there on business. “Obituaries of Washington County Arkansas, Volume One. 1841 - 1892” Compiled by Barbara P Easley contains an edited transcription of the article which appeared in the Fayetteville Democrat August 2, 1883. Personal information extracted from the resolution of death drafted by the committee of his Lodge brothers [Farmington Lodge, No. 227, A.R.&A.M.], indicate Geo. D Roberts of Tennessee had come to Washington County, AR with his family about 10 years prior to his death. The Roberts Family settled near Mount Comfort. George was twice elected as Worshipful Master and was holding that office at the time of his death. Leroy POND, the grandson of Mary Jane ROBERTS and James POND is one of Washington County, AR's W.W.II heroes. I understand one street and the Veterans Memorial Building were named in his honor. The father of George and Ben H ROBERTS was Ben H ROBERTS Jr who according to Bible records married Mary M HILL in VA 30 Jul 1828. The Bible also names Ben and George's siblings: Mary Ann ROBERTS (b. 18 Mar 1831) married 14 Aug 1851 to Wm. LEGG; Andrew Jackson ROBERTS (b. 4 Mar 1836 d. 8 Oct 1852); and Eliz J. Roberts b. 27 Feb 1847. Family data indicates Ben ROBERTS the younger was born 16 Apr 1842 in VA and died 3 May 1900. Ben is believed to be buried in an unmarked grave n Blevins Cemetery, Falls County, TX. However, a family story says he died by his own hand in southeastern OK. His granddaughter told me his sons insisted the body be returned to TX for burial. I would like to hear from anyone with additional information on this ROBERTS line.
