Dear Troutt researchers, To answer your request concerning the three Bird (Byrd) Troutts of Sumner County, I will try to do so at this time. Bird #1. Bird #2, and Bird #3 are as follows. Bird #1 was the son of Michael Troutt who came to Sumner about 1816 along with his brother John from Knox Co., TN and built his home on the Middle Fork of Drakes (now Dutch) Creek about 4 miles west of present day Westmoreland. The Troutt boys, Michael & John, had been born in (probably) Augusta Co., VA and had come to Tennessee via Botetourt Co., VA about 1803. Michaels log house was only torn down in 1995. Bird #2 was the son of George Alfred Troutt and a nephew of Bird #1. Bird #3 also known as Bird Mizer was the son of Jeremiah Troutt and the grandson of George Alfred. The following is some info on these families. Michael Troutt (ca. 1767 - 1820) was married to Margaret (Maiden name not known) and he had the following seven known children. Margaret may or may not be the mother. 1. George Alfred Sr. (21 Feb 1799 - 15 Apr 1895) married Nancy Bell 12 Jul 1821 and had 13 children. Bird #2 being the 5th child. George married 2nd Elizabeth (Graves) Rippy and raised her 4 children. Third he married Elizabeth C. Cline and raised her son and together they had three children. A total of 21 children called old Squire George "Pop". 2. Henry (bef 1805 - ?) married Polly Robinson 20 Mar 1827. Where they went I do not know. 3. These are the seven children of Michael Troutt as I know them. After Michael died in 1820 his brother John went to Jefferson Co., IL first appearing there in 1830. he had sold his land in Sumner Co. to his nephew George in 1829. It is believed that old John was a father figure to the younger boys and that they followed him to Illinois. John Troutt (abt 1788 - abt 1865) married Nancy Kerr ( ? - bef 1840) 24 Aug 1807 and they had the following known children. (1) Margaret (1808 - 1872) (2) Samuel (abt 1809 - bef 1871) (3) Elizabeth (3 May 1812 - 15 Dec 1868) (4) Nancy (abt 1815 - 1892) (5) Jacob (15 May 1816 - 18 Aug 1874) (6) John Jr., (abt 1819 - ?) (7) Addison (abt 1820 - ?) (8) Malinda (abt 1820 - 24 Mar 1879) (9) Barbara (abt 1823 - ?) (10) Mary Ann (abt 1825 - abt 1851) Second John married Lucy Black (1808 - 1873) from Sumner Co., in Jefferson Co., Il 10 Feb 1840 and they had the following known children. (1) Elmira ( abt 1842 - ?) (2) Eliza Louisa (abt 1844 - ?) (3) Lucinda C. (abt 1846 - ?) (4) William Carroll (21 May 1849 - 20 Sep 1934). Back to Bird #1. William (abt 1842 - bef 1898) married Louisa Jane Harris. 6. Margaret Elizabeth "Puss" (abt 1844 - bet 1880 & 1886) married Felix McDole 9 Dec 1876. 7. Mahala Melinda (abt 1846 - bet 1860 & 1870) 8. John Albert (15 Apr 1850 - 25 Dec 1933) married Nancy "Nannie" Wiseman 9 Jan 1872. 9. Andrew Jackson "Andy" (18 May 1850 - 11 Apr 1935) married Georganne Bell 22 Apr 1876. 10. Alfred Mizell (6 May 1853 - 21 Aug 1929) married Emiline Mandrell 17 Dec 1874. 11. George Vinson (Sep 1857 - 1 Apr 1934) never married. Bird #1 later married Mary Jane Wyatt and they had one daughter. 1. Leella "Ella" (15 Aug 1864 - 26 Oct 1933) married Charles Asbury "Charlie" Slayton 11 jan 1886. Later Bird #1 married Rhoda Sarver 28 May 1877 they had no children. Bird #2 (16 Jun 1831 - 3 Jul 1862) the son of Squire George Alfred and the nephew of Bird #1. married Margery A. Holmes (28 Nov 1833 - 20 May 1887) 25 Jan 1855. He died during the War Between The States in Alcorn Co., Mississippi. It is not known if he died of wounds or from disease. [note, more men died from disease than wounds during the war.] Bird #2 and Margery had two sons (not three) 1. James Albert (1 Jan 1856 - 26 Jan 1917) never married. 2. Robert Calvin "R.C." (22 Jul 1861 - 30 Oct 1933) married Lizzie Bradley 2 Jan 1889 and 2nd married Anna Guy West 4 Feb 1896. I believe the confusion of three sons comes from the fact that Robert went by R.C. Troutt. These two Troutt brothers owned the old Troutt Brothers General Store near "Stinking" Creek between Westmoreland & Oak Grove. Bird Ellis, (Bird #3) (26 Apr 1866 - 18 Jan 1936) the son of Jeremiah Troutt, grandson of Squire George Alfred, nephew of Bird #2 and great-nephew of Bird #3 married Mary Alice "Mollie" Dorris 5 Aug 1887. They had seven known children. (1) Adrain Beard, (2) William Dennis, (3) Zettie Erma, (4) Eavil Wilson, (5) Alvin Calvin, (6) Clydie Mae, and (7) Vergie Frances. I hope this is of help to you all and I haven't messed up anything. I could go on but my eyes are crossing as it is past this old Bird's [pardon the pun] bedtime. Please let me know if you can help I will be glad to exchange family group sheets with any of you. If you wish to call or ask any question please do so.
