Tn Queries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tn/Sumner/11972 Surname: Buchanan ------------------------- A surveyor named John Buchanan lived in Davidson County by 1800. This man's name is many Sumner and Davidson land records but I do not know WHICH John Buchanan he is. There is a John Buchanan from PA who figured prominently in the Revolution. There is a John Buchanan who traveled with others through the Cumberland Gap from Virginia(before 1760). There is also John Buchanan who is mentioned in JGM Ramsey's Annals of Tennessee on page 194: "Mr. Rains settled the place known as Deaderick's plantation. Among the emigrants that built their cabins at the bluff were some from South Carolina. These were John Buchanan, Alexander Buchanan, Daniel Williams, John Mulherrin, James Mulherrin, Sampson Williams, Thomas Thompson besides others whose names are not given." I am uncertain of Ramsey's source but I would appreciate help in determining which John Buchanan was the Sumner/Davidson surveyor.
