    3. Another excellent source of information on the State of Franklin: Ramsey, J. G. M. " Annals of Tennesee", reprinted by The Overmountain Press, Johnson City, TN. 1999. My father, much more an historian than I, always said that the home built by Richard Cavitt before 1797 was in the State of Franklin when it was built. Helen Mike Waggoner wrote: > As I remember my Tennessee history, the state of Franklin never functioned > as, or was officially recognized as a State. It only lasted a few months, > and I believe its organizers were arrested and detained for a short time. > They didn't too bad....The "Governor" the of state of Franklin, John > Sevier, later became the Governor of the State of Tennessee. > > North Carolina was finally able to cede Tennessee to the Federal Government > in 1790, and it became part of the US Territory South of the Ohio River. > This lasted until 1796, when Tennessee became a State. > > Mike Waggoner > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: Pamela Vick <thecatlady@MINDSPRING.COM> > To: <TNSUMNER-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Thursday, June 14, 2001 5:01 PM > Subject: [TNSUMNER] State of Franklin > > > J.
