I am researching the Joel BROWN family and am interested in a daughter named Peggy who may be the Margarette BROWN who married William PAYNE abt 1821. This is what I know. Joel BROWN b. between 1730-1740 (based on 1830 census) in NC; d. abt 1835; wife has been listed as Mary SEAY b. 1750-1760 in NC; d between 1830-1840 They started out in NC. They married about 1776 and lived in Bertie NC. All children appear to be born in NC and are spread between the years 1777 and 1801. There were a total of 5 sons 3 of whom may have stayed in NC. They may have moved westward to Randolph co, NC, before arriving in TN after 1801. Joel BROWN wrote a will (Will Book 1788-1842 Sumner Co., TN) dated 4 March 1834 and proved 1835-6. The synopsis lists eldest son John Brown. Second son Stephen Brown. Daughter Polly Acrey. Son John Brown. Daughter Peggy Payne. Daughter Raney Laseter. Appoints Jesse Laseter and John Brown executors. The daughter Polly (Mary) was born between 1774-1790 and it has been listed as b. 1777. She may be the wife of John ACREE also of Bertie NC. They moved to TN and lived in Stewart Co. "Raney" is Lourana b. 1796 and she married Jesse LASSITER in 1826. She lived until 10 July 1870 according to one website, although she was listed on the census just 2 days before that in Stewart Co. I cannot nail down which John BROWN may have been the son. Nor can I find a Stephen BROWN living in TN at the time of Joel's death. I am trying to place Margarette BROWN in this family, possibly as the daughter "Peggy" who was born between 1794 and 1804. My Margarette BROWN was born about 1801 in NC and she married William PAYNE abt 1821 in Davidson Co, TN. According to the Christian Advocate she died in 1853 at the age of 52. She named her PAYNE children Robert, Greenwood, William, Mary Malvina, Martha Margaret, and Priscilla and one female died as a child. They lived in Davidson County in 1830 and 1840 census and are in Sumner County (with half the farm in Robertson Co ) in the 1850 census. I welcome your checking your database for any of these names and appreciate any help you listers can give me. Thanks a bunch.
