    2. This obituary appeared in the Nashville Tennessean on Monday, 4 July 2005: Layon BROWN Sumner Age 90 July 3, 2005 Age 90 of Gallatin. Passed away on Sunday, July 3, 2005. A Summer county native, Mr. Brown was the son of the late Robert Walter Brown and Mary Eva Martin Brown. Mr. Brown was a graduate of Portland High School and the Bowling Green Business College. He married the former Pat Jane Reed on May 10, 1941, who preceded him in death in February 2002. After graduating from Officer Candidate School as a first lieutenant with the U.S. Army, he began his tour of duty in Belgium and France with his division being the first to invade German soil. It was there where he was awarded the Bronze Star with an Oak Leaf Cluster for the Battle of St Lo and the Battle of the Bulge. After serving as Sumner County's Court Clerk for 1946 to 1958, he began a career in banking where he was a principal partner in three banking institutions in Sumner County. He was a Charter Member of College Heights Baptist Church, a Member of the American Legion, VFW, a Mason with the Fairfield Lodge and a Shriner. He is survived by daughters, Marilyn Brown (Ronnie) Gilley of Gallatin, Delane (David) Vester of Lafayette and Trena Reed Brown of Hermitage; sister, Freeda West of Louisville, KY; grandchildren, Thomas David (Amanda) Vester of Lafayette and Tyler Daniel Vester of Lafayette. Mr. Brown was a devoted husband, father and church member who will be missed by all. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to College Heights Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m., Wednesday, July 6, 2005 at Alexander Funeral Home. Interment in Crestview Memorial Park with Full Military Honors. Visitation will be Tuesday, July 5, 2005 from 11 a.m. til 9 p.m. at ALEXANDER FUNERAL H0ME, (615) 452-2324
