Since you both have connections to Kings in Sumner Co., I was wondering if either of you (or anyone on the list) might have a John King in you families. John married Lucinda McRay/McKay (hard to read on the marriage license) in Nov. of 1848. I have been unable to find them in the 1850 census. I did, however, find them in the 1860 census in Wilson Co., TN living with the family of William and Mahala Hume. I found through marriage records that Mahala was a King, too. Also in the household was Nancy King who I assume was a sister to John and Mahala. John and Lucinda King had three sons in the 1860 census; James H., Robert W. and John C. I descend from Robert W. King. I found that Robert married Mary Cash in 1871 in Pope Co., IL. A descendant of James Henry has found that his second marriage occurred in that same county. James H. was the bondsman (I believe this is the correct term) on Robert and Mary's marriage license. Another bit of information is that Henry McRay/! McKay was the bondsman on John and Lucinda's marriage license. I've not been able to connect John to any of the King families in Sumner Co. Also, I've had no luck in tracing the McRay/McKay name. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Virginia King Bowers Benton, AR

Tn Queries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tn/Sumner/11876 Surname: ------------------------- I am searching for information on Sumner County's own Governor/General William B. Bate (CSA). Mainly, need to know if any of Bate's Civil War uniforms or equipment still exists in a collection or museum. Thanks.
My Kings were from right there in Sumner County, around Gallatin, I believe. I know Robert King had a place on Snow Creek. I'm not sure if it was Sumner County in 1790, when they moved from NC, or Iredell County. I even have a map somewhere in my prodigious files that show where his residence was located. Robert KING died in 1806 at Snow Creek, Iredell County. His wife was Mary Morrison, who died in Sumner County in 1817 and is buried near Gallatin. Their children were: Margaret (m. Thomas Donnell); Mary (m.James Pharr); Richard (m. Rachel Blythe); Samuel (m. Anna Dixon); Anna (m. William McGehee); Rebecca (m. John Bell); Elizabeth (m. ? Pendergrast/ph?); William (m. Mary Priscilla Hassell); Rhoda King (m. John Baker Pendergrast); and Davis (m. Sally Joiner). I'm trying to find out if Richard King who married Nancy Daley in 1829 is the son of Richard King and Rachel Blythe. That's my brick wall right now. Thanks for any help. Posted on: Sumner Co. Tn Queries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tn/Sumner/11874 Surname: Gilmore, Gillmore, Spears ------------------------- Thanks Sharon, If I find anything, I will let you know! It is interesting though...The Spears line, which is my focus of research, also originated in Albemarle Co. VA, before my forefather and mother, Ephraim and Sarah Spears, settled in Allen Co. KY. in around 1813. Their son William, who I believe is the same William who married Isabell Gilmore, was born around 1808 or so. Anyway, thanks again for the clues. Skip doyle_buhler@hotmail.com
This case was heard on appeal by the Superior Court of Tennessee 1795. I assume that the case was appealed from the Sumner County Court. The witnesses in the case included Arthur Hankins, William Hankins, Thomas Waller, John Moore, Robert Shannon, Andrew Hoover and Catherine Moore. I would like to hear from anyone who is researching any of these individuals or families. Thanks.
I have been reminded that I should have given some dates for my searchees, so I'm adding them now. Richard King and Rachel BLYTHE were married in 1794 in Sumner County. She was his cousin. I have a listing for their children, but Richard/Daley is not on that list. Richard King married Nancy DALEY in Williamson County, TN in 1829. In 1833 they moved to Arkansas. The names I have for the children of Richard and Rachel are James Blythe KING, Robert Anderson KING, Martha, Andrew, and Persis, who apparently died before his first birthday. I would dearly love to find Richard's and Nancy's parents. I'd be one up on my brother. Edna
This is my first email to this mailing list. Since getting interested in genealogy, it was believe that my family were descendants of Richard KING of NJ, NC, and TN. The problem is that no one has been able to make a connection between Richard KING who was married to Rachel BLYTHE, and my provable ancestor, Richard KING, who was married to Nancy DALEY. He's as far as we've been to document. I need to find proof that Richard and Rachel were my Richard's parents. I'm sure there are still a lot of KINGS in Sumner County, so I'm hoping someone will be able to connect these two generations for me. It would really tear down that brick wall. Thanks very much. Posted on: Sumner Co. Tn Queries Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/Tn/Sumner/11873 Surname: GILMORE, WEATHERRED, HEARD, TOOLEY, MEADOR ------------------------- I am a GILMORE descendant through two different daughters of Joseph GILMORE and Frances EUBANK of Albemarle Co., VA. I'm told that a couple of their brothers moved to Sumner Co. I know that 3 Gilmore girls moved there: Elizabeth who married John WEATHERRED, Mary "Polly" who married John TOOLEY, and Frances who married Thomas MEADOR. I've been trying to find Joseph's parents for years, and wondering if he might have been the son of Jane HEARD and John GILMORE who were in Albemarle in the 1750s and later moved to Cumberland Co., NC. I'm told Jane and John Gilmore had a daughter named Isabell, born about 1750. Jane HEARD was the daughter of Isabella and Charles HEARD. Charles Heard died in Albemarle Co. 1748. Maybe there is a connection somewhere. Please let me know if you find it.

Diane, Please e-mail me privately with your e-address. I need to ask you a question. Thanks Tim Heath
Anyone else working on the Morris family, I was wondering if anyone had done much research on the Sally Morris (probably Sarah) who married Samuel Durham in 1811? I'd certainly appreciate any help. Many thanks, Sherry Falcon
In a message dated 4/17/01 1:56:58 PM Central Daylight Time, LinDFranks@aol.com writes: << I am not a descendant of Nathaniel Parker, but his daughter, via his second wife was Nancy Parker who married Elijah R. Robertson. >> The research that I've conducted over the years on my Parker line is that Nathaniel married Mary Ramsey Bledsoe when she was pregnant, but Nathaniel was not the father. The wording in his will intimates this. I understand, also, that notices were posted in the Knoxville, TN newspapers whereby Nathaniel denied all responsibility for her debts. All this occurred in preparation for divorce proceedings.
Hi, There are many, many descendants of the Nathaniel Parker, Sr. family. I have an extensive collection of research on the family. If you have questions that are a little more specific, I might be able to point you in the right direction. Sincerely, Sherry
