Would you Sumner Co. TN listers be willing to help me with a dilemma and a question? The only marriage record in the right time frame that I have been able to locate for my g-g-g-grandmother Mary KING to "a" FARRIS was recorded in 1838 in Sumner Co.,TN for a George W. FARRIS and a Mary E. KING. The year is good, because my g-g-grandfather, Isaac Smith FARRIS was born in 1839 in KY (probably in Barren Co.), and he was the first child of my Mary (KING) FARRIS. There is nothing else on the marriage record mentioned above besides the names, the date, and the year. My dilemma and question is this: I believe my Mary KING lived in Cumberland Co., KY, and her FARRIS husband-to-be lived in Barren Co., KY. These two counties are not far from Sumner Co., TN. Would there be any particular reason that any of you know of for this couple to have traveled (looks to be a fairly short distance on the map) from KY to Sumner Co.,TN to get married? Was it possibly easier or quicker or ??? to go across the border from KY to TN? I would like to somehow verify if the marriage record for George W. FARRIS and Mary E. KING in 1838 *was* OR *was not* my ancestors and the father and mother of Isaac Smith FARRIS. Thank you for ANY help, Ginny in AZ

Does anyone have info on Ellen Brown, married to Dennis Denning? Children: Wade, George, Minus, Lee
I am seeking pictures of the following persons. I realize that photography came into play for the average population about 1850; but, due to death dates, the persons listed could have been the subject of a photograph. I will gladly pay copying costs or accept a scanned, xeroxed, whatever, picture. All persons were from NC and migrated to Sumner Co. Tennessee. Thanks! William D. Dinning spouse of Jean (Jane) Boyle William B. Dinning spouse of Susannah (Lucky) Carr Alderson Matizon Dinning spouse of Lindy Cooper Oliver Denning spouse of Henrieta House Granville Dinning spouse of Lydia Durham Dennis Denning spouse of Ellen Brown
Hi Dot, I have Sarvers, but have never seen them as Shavers. They originate from Casper Sarver which I have seen as Surber, Sarber, and Sarvour. He was from Switzerland. >From SOUTHEASTERN ANTIQUES AND COLLECTING Magazine, latest edition: "FIND YOUR MISSING SOLDIERS The National Park Service has created a website (www.itd.nps.gov/cwss/soldiers.ntm) to make it easier to find information about Civil War soldiers and sailors. The site offers searchable databases for individual soldiers and sailors, prisoners of war, battles, Medal of Honorees, cemeteries, battles and regiments. The website retrieves information on rank, regiment and company." Hope this helps someone.

Siloam Missionary Baptist Church was found in 1841 one year before Macon county was formed (therefore, for a year it sat in Sumner County). Yes, it does sit on the border. I have a wonderful book by Patricia Gilliam Hastings, Into His Marvelous Light; The Minutes of Siloam Missionary Baptist Church 1841-1883 that has been quite useful. I found that my ancestor, William Riley Minick was a clerk of the church during this time period. The book has not only given me insight into his style of writing; but, also I found that the church governed much of the members' daily lives. So, I got a feel for what other events were happening and also where members transfered from. Although I found no Hammonds in the index, I did find Hammack.
