The record went on to say that Jesse and Mary BLACK had children, but I find no proof of this and a marriage record for Jesse Anderson and Eliza BLACK making it seem she was the daughter of John and Mary BLACK before Jesse and she married and then there is a marriage record of Malinda BLACK and Elvis Jefferson RIPPY marrying in Odin, IL Marion Co, so that would appear that she was not a step sister but the daugher of Mary and John or one of the other BLACK families, which were all related in Odin, IL. Tom and Nettie POWELL BLACK were in Odin at the same time. I show that Jesse Anderson Rippy, my GGGGDad b. 3 FEb 1814 Sumner Co TN d. 25 Nov 1888 Sumner Co TN had 9 children. His Dad married Mary BLACK 21 July 1829 in Sumner Co and Anderson married Eliza BLACK 21 Sep 1835 Sumner Co TN. Their children were Tabitha b. 1836 TN d. bef 1888; Isaac b. 31 Mar 1839 TN m. Angeline GRAVES m. Ellen TAYLOR she died of TB after giving birth to Dee Ottis RIPPY 6 Feb 1900 d. 26 Oct 1951 and then these children were born to Gmother Malinda Frances "Lennie" STONE RIPPY EThel, Rober Wm, Annie BEll, Herbert Lee, Mae Elizabeth, Hubert Enoch, Viola and Daddy, Jesse Eldridge RIPPY; Flora Gardner and Mae Erie. Anderson had Henry C, George Terrance, Jeremiah McMillin, and James M who married Eliza DAVIS and had Thomas W, DAisy Myrtle, Etta M, Vangie B, Charles E and James Virgil and Caroline E RIPPY who married Soloman CHARLTON was a daughter of Jesse Anderson and Eliza BLACK RIPPY. Now there was another Anderson Rippy, but he was Quenton Anderson RIPPY he was the son of John M RIPPY and Elizabeth Jane BELL and he married Martha A DORRIS. There was also a John Woodson RIPPY called Woodson like my GDad Jesse Woodson was called by his middle name. On some genealogies it is listed a Woodson RIPPY b. 1870 d. 1940 Sumner Co TN that is not my Jesse Woodson RIPPY for he was b 1877 and died 1954 in KY. He wasn't married to Alice BRADLEY or Cintha GRAVES but was married to Ellen TAYLOR and Malinda Frances STONE and Gma had a note in her personal journal that he also was married to a woman called "Cid or Sid" who died of T. B. but I do not know who that person was. Hope this helps some. The only reason I knew about the BLACK girls was that at sometime I got an e-mail from a BLACK family genealogy that said she had found 8 children listed as being born to John Michael and Mary BLACK from VA and that Mary BLACK originated from PA, haven't found that for sure, yet. Also there's a Perry-Rippy history that says that Andy "Nat" BLACK was married to a Sina GRAVES and then Elizabeth TUCKER after Sina's death. Hope this helps some. Isham's son Isham Hodges who married Elizabeth Clay came to Sumner County, Tn. As did Aaron Hodges and Elizabeth Markham. I will check on the Duffer connection. Let me hear from you. Lowell
I too am researching Hodges and the information I have shows a Robert Hodges (b/ 1704 Virginia and I have been told that he may have been known as Robert of Chestnut Creek) as the parent of Isham and a son, Robert. I do not have any spouse information. Isham also had a son by the same name, who then named his son Isham (three total). The first Isham is believed to have died abt 1782 in Henry Co., VA. As far as I know Nancy HILL is still unproven as the wife of Ishom I. Ishom Hodges II and Elizabeth (Betsy) CLAY arrived in Sumner Co. in 1812. Betsy Clay's parents were William CLAY (b 1733 Henrico Co Va, d Oct 1810 Franklin Co KY) and his wife Milly. William Clay is supposed to be the son of William Mitchell CLAY and Martha RUNYAN. Juanita Patton wrote a book about the Hodges in the late 1980's. If you are descended from Asa HODGES and Jemima COCHRAN, please contact me. I also have info on several of the other Sumner Co. descendants of Ishom II.

McDougal (I have also found mention of Sarah Rosalind McDougal with these same dates). What I have found shows Nancy R. was Born 24 Sept 1867, Died 29 Sept 1898 and was married to James Martin Loveall on 20 Oct 1891. Nancy's parents were James Monroe McDougal and Nancy E.(Eveline?)Dorris. I have no dates on them yet. From census records Nancy E. Dorris' parents were William F. Dorris and Sally (which could be Sarah)? (no maiden name). It is within reason that Nancy might have named her children after her father (the Monroe) and her mother (Sally/Sarah). He was married to my cousin William Andy RIPPY's widow, America BUTLER and she is living in Gallatin. He has been dead some time. Carroll's father and brother are deceased and his Mother may be by now, haven't seen him, lately. They had a family farm down there in Westmoreland TN, Sumner Co somewhere out in the country for Carroll was still going to the farm and feeding the cattle and all, last time I visited with my cousin Willie Ruth, a maternal first cousin. She can be reached at the Westmoreland TN library in town, if you need to find more out about the Borders family. She knows a lot, working at the library and they have been married more than 30 years, for she was young when they did marry and he was in the service. America was Fount's second wife, I didn't know his first wife or his son's name. Jo BORDERS was related to them also and she has been deceased for a long time. She is buried at Fairfield and was my cousin Leon RIPPY's wife who died of cancer. The BORDERS family has attended Robert's Tabernacle Church for a long time and I believe the BORDER's that married our Rippys is buried there, also. Happy Hunting, Patti Ann RIPPY HAIR

Richard Stone married Mary [Winn, or Yancy, or ?] about 1730. By about 1750 they were living in Lunenburg Co, VA. Their daughter Phoebe Stone married Minor Wilks about 1752. They lived near the families of Winn, other Stones, Samuel Snead, other Wilks, and Hardy. Minor and Phoebe Wilks had several children including Richard Stone Wilks who married Nancy Ann Snead, daughter of Samuel. Another daughter, Mary, married Isham Hardy. Richard S. and Nancy Ann Wilks moved to Sumner Co., TN about 1810 where two daughters married Winns, and I do not know how the Winns were related. The oldest son of Richard S. and Nancy Ann Wilks was Minor Winn Wilks. Other members of these families moved to Sumner Co, Maury Co., and Giles Co. in TN. Others moved to Barren Co, KY. They all moved back and forth, visited, and intermarried. My Ggrandfather Samuel Wilks got permission to marry from his father Minor W. Wilks in Sumner Co., TN. One of the witnesses to the document was Martha Snead Bohannon who lived in Barren Co, KY. Sam married Elizabeth Hardy, the grand daughter of Isham Hardy and Mary Snead. They married in Barren Co., KY. Details of these families are long and would need to be mailed. Some details are given at http://www.my-ged.com/jimwilks. About 5000 related people are listed there.

His father was Joseph Monroe Loveall(1894-1976). He married Eunice Elizabeth McCullough(1900-1974). She was decended from Griffins and McDougals as well as McCulloughs. Her Father was "Frank" (I believe him to have been Franklin McCullough. I believe, due to family oral history, my ggrandfather to have been named Joseph Monroe Loveall (Lovall) as well and that he was married to Malinda Emmaline West. When he served in the civil war..he had 2 small children. I believe that after his death and before the 1890's pensioners census, she remarried. I believe that my ggrandfather, James was one of those two small children. If anyone has any information on any of these. Please contact me. Thanks, Janet
I am trying to contact Ruth Crowder, and would like for her to write me if she's on this list. Thanks.

All the children were born in the family home west of Trammel Creek and north of Turner Station on old Hwy 31E going towards Franklin, KY from Westmoreland TN. Perhaps you can look Elizabeth up on the Sumner Co records and find her family. Mary BLACK, age 91 mother in law of Liza lived through 3 generations seeing her family broken by death. She moved into the home of her step son, J Anderson RIPPY and died in 1876 and was buried in the family plot "northwest of Sugar Grove" after a long life of little less than one hundred years. Nat also married the fall of 1869 to Sina GRAVES and moved into his log house about a quarter of a mile east of the old homestead on Trammel Creek. There is recorded at Scottsville, KY a marriage license issued to Geore W BLACK and Martha DAVIS on march 24, 1863. They were married in the New Hope Church, northwest of Westmoreland, TN where my Aunt Rosie May ROALIN and Uncle Everette HUNTSMAN and son Billy Gene HUNTSMAN are buried. Their marriage vows were performed by Reverend J. G. DURHAM. Martha DAVIS was a sister of Sydney and took place a couple of years after G W returned from fighting in the Civil War. Levi, George W BLACK's older brother moved to Odin, Marion Co, IL which was a rapidly developing territory. He wrote of railroad construction and a plan by Napoleon MORRISON to sink a coal mine shaft. Many members of the family organized a wagon train with eight to ten wagons and made the trip to Odin, IL, after G W died at the age of 71 in 1867. The estate of Eliza BLACK was divided among the children according to records found in Nashville TN for she left know will. George and martha DAVIS BLACK of Odin received 43 1/2 acres the homestead and land west of it. Armanda and patton TROUT received 28 acres to the east, Mary and Sidney DAVIS received 25 1/2 acres east of Armanda's plot; Elizabeth and William TURNER received 30 1/2 acres south of these plots; Francis and Drury PERRY received 32 1/2 acres south of George's plot and the homestead and the remainer of the estate went to unidentified persons, presumably for legal fees, etc. Andy "Nat" and Dick had already received land notheast of the estate and built their homes. At the time of the court's decree, the children lived at various and sundry places. Francis and D Perry lived near Scottsville, KY. Armanda lived in Morehouse, MO. Elizabeth remained at home to run the general store and post office at Turner's Station. Mary and Sidney moved to Odin along with G W and Martha. The O & M RR was built through Odink IL going west to St. Louis in 1857 and the IC RR was built in 1865 making Odin the crossroads of a trhriving town and coal was discovered in 1868. The first Methodist Chruch was started with no building in 1882 and held in homes of members.
