I'm looking for information regarding the children of James C. Buntin and Margret A.P. (House) Buntin. They were married Oct 9, 1848. Information I'm trying to confirm is if John H. Buntin b. abt 1856, was James C's son. The 1880 census lists the J.C. Buntin family that includes Elizabeth (23) and James (21) both born in Kentucky, but no John H. John H. Buntin married Lucy Jane Groves January 13, 1876 in Mitchellville. I am fairly new to the Sumner County list and am looking for information on Young Cotton. He is found in the 1820 Census in Sumner County. I have seen the summaries for Thomas Cotton and am curious if Young connects to this line. Young's birth was before 1765. Earlier he was found in Logan County and Christian counties in Kentucky. His son Elias is found in Robertson County, TN and Christian county, KY; later migrating to southern Illinois. Would love to hear from anyone researching these Cottons. Julie
Hi list, Sorry I'm keeping the list so busy tonight! I am looking for a John KEMPER married to a Belle ? They were alive in the late 1930s, early 1940s- had no children. According to my mother they lived in a beautiful house with huge front porch and very pretty view. My mother stayed with them as a child and they were related in some way to her grandfather, Thomas Jefferson KEMPER (1872-1956). I'd like to figure out how they were related. Someone from the list also emailed me and asked me about a John Kemper because a relative had been married at his house on the porch - my mother thinks it would be this John KEMPER's house because of the beautiful view and porch. Thanks, Sandy Key
I should have known!!! >Sandra, >That map is online at: >http://www.rootsweb.com/~tnsumner/1878map.htm > >>
You all may already be aware of this, but there is an incredible map of Sumner Co in 1878 at the Sumner Co Archives that can be photocopied (if you are there) for $5. This map lists the name of the head of every household at the time and shows where they live. It is a treasure! Sandy Key
My grandmother's mother in law was Frances Louella Rippy "Lula" (the one that remembers the wagon trains) and she lived (as a child) near what would have been Pondville today according to my copy of the 1878 Sumner Co map. Where my grandmother lives now (the Wagon Trail Road "remains" are on the far rear of her property) is east of Fountainhead at the edge of District 16 (on Corinth Rd- used to be called Suphura Rd.) Hello, Several people have written me on my query about descendants of Ellis PARKER (1865-1936) who was married to Emily WHITSON and did he later marry a KIRKHAM? to say that they have Ellis PARKER married to Emily KIRKHAM and nothing about a WHITSON. I'm not sure where I got my information, it's been so long ago, but I've received some other conflicting info I'd like to clear up if possible - here's what I have-can you please tell me where I'm "off"? I have Ellis PARKER (1865-1936) married to Emily WHITSON. I have Ellis as the son of James G. PARKER (1802-bef. 1900) and Rhoda A. WHITSON (1832-bef. 1900). I have Rhoda as the daughter of George B. WHITSON and Margaret TIPTON. George and Margaret were also the parents of William WHITSON (1836-bef. 1900) who married Sarah ? I have William and Sarah's children listed as: Millie, Willie, Emily, John W.,Ewel,Charles and Emma. Their child Emily is the one I have married to Ellis PARKER which makes them first cousins. I have Ellis and Emily's children as: Clarence, Zeler, Lizzie,Samuel T., Shirley, Cornie Ann, Hattie, Mable, and Homer Samuel. Someone else told me that have a brother of Samuel T. as Ellis and that Samuel T. was married to a Nora KIRKHAM. Help! Thanks. Sandy Key Thanks, Sandy Key >Hi Sandra, > >I have an Ellis H. While reading microfilm this evening I found an aritcle about a man who had died of jaundice in Aberdeen, Miss. at "Commercial House" but had a wife and child in Sumner county. He had stated his name was Avery or Avert but upon finding papers in his saddlebags their were jewelry and invoices with the name S. Jelonek of Jenkins & Co., Cincinnati & of Goldsmith, Barkhouse & Co., St. Louis. He was approx. 5' 3" and weighed 175 pounds with light eyes and light brown hair and around 40 years old. He was an Englishman by birth and a Silversmith by trade. I'm not sure if they ever found out for certain who the man was but I thought if someone was looking for one of their relatives, this may be him. Let me know if this sounds like someone you're looking for and I'll email you the entire article.
