    2. Thanks to all who resonded to my query, you have been very helpful. I have just one additional question, after the transcription of the "List of Free Male Inhabitants, Captain Dickeys Company, 1 January 1826" there is the following footnote: "An article and copy of the original list appeared in the Highland Rim Keen & Kin, Volume I, Issue 1, June 1989, concerning many of the listed people." I am wondering if anyone knows where I can optain a copy of this article? Julie

    1. [TNSUMNER] stories of and about our ancestors

    3. list, hello all I have been a member of the SUMNER list for a long time now. I am a true GENEALOGIST and Family historian. True a lot of people are more interested in names and dates than how our families lived, I agree whole heartedly that we should know how our ancestors lived. most of our lives parraleled theirs, we get up in the morning and go to work as they did, we eat our breakfast, lunch & dinner's, we spend time with family and neighbors as they did. we go to school as they did, talk and vote politics as they did, etc. the differences are we get up by 7 a.m., when that was sleeping in to our ancestors, we drive our cars to work, while our ancestors walked or rode horses, we work 8 hour days, they worked sun upto sun down, while we visit our family and friends via telephone, they would go to each others homes. we drive our kids to schoolor they catch the bus, our ancestors walked or again rode horses, and while we read up on the news of the day, it may be weeks before our ancestors heard any news. the hardships our ancestors endured were well beyond what many of us could handle in todays world. if we tried living as they did we would surely have much more appreciation of their accomplishments. I teach a beginning course on GENEALOGY at our local College and I always make it clear to get all information you can on our ancestors lives, bring them to LIFE. let us see what it was like to walk at least one day in their lives. as far as miss thang, if it is above we people of this list what is she doing on here? she (it) is a TENNESSEE want-a-be, or indeed looking for e-mail addresses, just delete and move on. my ancestors went to SUMNER county, about 1796, they left that area by 1807, but I am still very interested in these people. looking for SILAS RAWLS, SR., ELIZABETH BASS RAWLS, JOB BASS, who lived in SUMNER & SMITH counties from 1796-1807. many thanks BOBBY RAWLS BIG SPRING, TEXAS brrawls@crcom.net

    2. Joyce, I wish I had read your message first, because I bit and answered Miss what's-her-name. If she's selling anything, she will strike out with me. I don't buy anything online. We "trashy nouveau riche" are not so trashy as to stoop to her level. At least I had my say with her - or him - or it!

    2. Miss Thang, We're not complaining about our heritage; we're reminiscing. It must be hard for you to sit in your ivory tower and understand those of us who have our feet firmly planted on Mother Earth. I am somewhat puzzled that you would stoop to join us ordinary folks at TNSUMNER rootsweb, and have to bored to tears with our down-home-country ways. However, stick with us - you may just catch on and learn to like us.

    3. Here's some info that may help genealogists: ******************************************************* TODAY'S eTIP(TM): Mapping the Family Plot Several software manufacturers offer mapping software that can help you locate and plot out the exact shape of your ancestors' lands based on deed descriptions. Following is a sampling of some that are specifically designed for genealogical purposes: * AniMap Plus http://portal.hungryminds.com/etip.asp?topic=dd19&link=goldbug.com/store/pag e1.html ] tracks the changing boundary lines of every county in the U.S. back to 1634. The program can overlay maps from various years while flagging a particular locale so that you can see whether it switched from one county to another. * DeedMapper http://portal.hungryminds.com/etip.asp?topic=dd19&link=www.ultranet.com/~dee ds/fact2.htm ] can accurately plot a boundary map of your ancestor's property based on a metes and bounds deed description. * TopoUSA http://portal.hungryminds.com/etip.asp?topic=dd19&link=www.delorme.com/topou sa/ ] can provide a topographical map of any region in the United Maps; when you drag a boundary map onto a topographic map, you get a pretty good idea of the lay of the land.
