I had always heard that George Lowery was from Scotland, from my grandmother, who would have been George's great-granddaughter (she has a photo of her grandmother, Elizabeth "Betty" Lowery), but one of the other Lowery researchers wrote this: " It >also appears there were at least 3 generation of George's. That is >interesting since George seems to be a favorite name in the Cherokee Chief >George Lowrey families. " And she wrote: "There was a Cherokee James Lowery who had a reservation/land grant in Tn >just above Chattanooga. Some time before they started rounding up the >Indians for removal he left with his family and did not collect any money >for his land. He just left. Others who did take the money were forced to >move to Oklahoma. With the money they were supposed to "start anew"." I have no idea how these Lowery's tie into the Sumner Co Lowery's or the Ill. Lowery's or if they really do or not. Sandy Key

    1. [TNSUMNER] Patterson Cem. Womack Rd.
    2. Thanks, for your posting of the Cemetery. My Grandfather was Lillard Branham and my step-grandfather was Claud Harris. I found an obituary of Lillard's father George Branham that states he was buried there also. There are two unmarked graves next to Lillard, and it set me to wondering. Jane Johnson Branham died Aug. 23, 1910 and George Branham died Jan. 18, 1916. I may be jumping too soon but it sounds good to me. Thanks again! Tom Branham P.S. I tried to send this to the poster at NIKYJR@aol.com, but the address was incorrect.

James Collins was married to Priscilla Summers, their son James M. Collins was married to Mahala Summers. His twin brother John Riley Collins was married to Martha Jane Whittenburg. He later married Ida Mae Sullivan, daughter of Joseph Sullivan and Sarah Forester. Their sister Ruth E. Collins married Sam Malone, then Stephen Howard. I am a decendent of James M. and Mahala. James was in the Black Hawk War (1832) and received land for his payment. The deed was signed by President Fillmore. A home was built on the land and more generations of Collins grew up there, including my Mother.

    2. Hello Bob, Your message was gatewayed to the Sumner Co. TN list. Augustine Byrn McCormick/McCormack was the brother of my g-g grandfather. Byrn was Augustine's middle name. I believe that Meredith/Meridy was a brother also. I have found no record to document Meridy's relationship beyond a shadow of a doubt. On the other hand, I think that is the most logical conclusion. They were the sons of Andrew McC. II and Rachael Venable McC. I have much info. about this family. I am glad to find another descendant of the TN branch of the McCormicks/macks of the White House farm in WV. Surnames: GRAVES Classification: Queries Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HiB.2ACI/2052 Message Board Post: I'm continuing my research for my cousin trying to discover his mother's ancestors and would like some help if anyone has researched the GRAVES family. His second-great-grandmother is Malinda Graves (10/10/1821-3/7/1867) who married David Mandrell (1816-1874) on 10/19/1837 in Sumner County. I have info on David's parents but am stumbling on Malinda's parents. In the 1830 Census for Sumner County there is a William Graves listed with males 2100001 and females 112201. This listing would support the possibility that William Graves is the father of Malinda Graves, but it's pretty weak evidence. Can anyone help me out any further?

Classification: Queries Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/HiB.2ACI/787.1424.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: What news I have on the Elizabeth Lowery/Lowry who wound up in Williamson County, IL and married Wm Eaton, is only through others who are researching the James Lowery line. I have absolutely no proof any of George and Jane Minter Lowery's kids wound up in southern IL. But clearly, some of the other Lowry/Lowery/Lowrey folks in Sumner County, TN did wind up in southern IL around 1840, others came later around 1850-1860. Some of James Lowery's (born 1781 NC, died 1855 Williamson County, IL) ancestors, not all, but some of these folks, have remnants of stories that indicate they walked the Trail of Tears and dropped off in southern IL. Anyone know of Indian heritage among these Lowrys from Sumner County, TN?

Surnames: Lowery Classification: Queries Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/HiB.2ACI/787.1424.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Thank you for your answer. However, according to my research, Elizabeth, daughter of George and Jane Minter Lowery married John Kemper. Elizabeth was born July 29, 1831, died Sept. 18, 1902--both in Tennessee. She married John Kemper March 5, 1855. They had at least 7 children--the last (in my records) was born in 1872 in TN. I have mostly researched my direct line, but I have not found where any of them have gone out of TN. That is not to say that none did--just not any in my direct line. I got some of my information from someone researching the Kemper line--at least two Lowerys married into the Kemper family. I am going now (via internet) to check the census records. At the time I began my research I did not pay much attention to neighbors. Thank you again for the response and I will keep your information for future reference. Beverly
