Thank you for all the fantastic responses to my John Brown and Sarah Foster question. I have some pretty good updates on the Foster family that I thought I would share with the Sumner group. ---------------------- Here's some info sent by Kathleen Hill (thanks, Kathleen!): 1. There was an Addison Foster who was either a BM, JP or MG to 5 marriages in Sumner Co between 1819 and 1822 including the marriage of Meredith Hodges to Caroline Sarver in 1819. 2. The 1820 Census of Sumner Co lists 2 Fosters: Foster, Addison males 011101 females 42210 slaves 0 Foster, James males 0001 females 001 According to the 1821 Tax List they lived on the South Fork of Drakes Creek ------------------------ I checked my own database and found that Addison Foster was also the father of Catherine Foster b. 27-APR-1807 who married Holly Hodges, the son of Aaron B. Hodges and Elizabeth Markham. Dovey Foster, who married Solomon Brown, was born ca 1798. Could she and Catherine be sisters? I don't know anything about Sara Foster yet, except that she married a John Brown on 04-DEC-1826, and was married by Meredith Hodges, J. P., bondsman was William Dorris. Could she be another sister to Catherine or sister of Dovey? The James Foster shown above would be 16-26 years old or born 1794-1804. Another child of Addison Foster? I just checked my copy of the 1820 Sumner County TN Tax List. Addison Foster is listed with 117 acres on the Sulpher Fork of Drakes Creek. He is listed three people above Solomon Brown. Jacob Brown, who married Dovey Foster, is listed right after Solomon. Anyone know any more about this family? Danene
I just made a Brown family discovery -- it appears that Solomon Brown had a son named John Brown, who died in 1847. John was born probably abour 1804-1806. I found a record for a John Brown to Sara Foster on 04-DEC-1826, by Meredith Hodges, J. P., bondsman was William Dorris. Does anyone know anything about this couple? Who was Sara Foster? Thanks, Danene Vincent

Her name is America Bowers. She was married to a D.M. Bowers who possibly went by Dave. He was a member of the Improved Order of Redmen. His obituary just mentioned that there was a memorial service but mentioned no cemetary or living relatives. Her obituary said she was to be buried in Spring Hill Cemetary. I do not have a date of death or which newspaper the obituary came from. It did mention that she died at the home of her niece Mrs. Tom Underhill who is my great grandmother. Any information regarding either one is greatly appreciated. Thanks!
Looking for more info. on the Rev. GABRIEL RAWLS. Gabriel was born circa 1720-30 most likely in NANSEMOND county, VIRGINIA (Some say ENGLAND}, anddied about the 27th of DECEMBER 1819 in CATAHOULA parish, LOUISIANA. He was listed in the VESTRY book of UPPER PARISH, NANSEMOND county, VIRGINIA in 1759, owning the same land that had belonged to the ORPHANS of LUKE RAWLS deceased. that property was a 200 acre tract that LUKE RALLS patented in 1747 with WILLIAM RALLS (I believe LUKE'S father) listed as a neighbor. after LUKE'S death about 4 MARCH 1752 it was listed as belonging to the heirs of LUKE RALLS. GABRIEL most likely went to ENGLAND to study the ministry with several of hischildren being born there. LUKE RAWLS, SR. {probable son of "old LUKE RAWLS} moved from NANSEMOND county, VIRGINIA with JESSE RAWLS to NORTHAMPTON county, NORTH CAROLINA, where JESSE RAWLS died leaving a wife OLIVE and a daughter SALLY who married JOHN BOON. GABRIEL RAWLS then showed up in JOHNSTON county, NORTH CAROLINA in 1771. LUKE RAWLS then moved to CRAVEN county, SOUTH CAROLINA about 1769 and GABRIEL & LUKE RAWLS had connecting land on CRAIN CREEK in CRAVEN county, SOUTH CAROLINA. LUKE'S land would eventually be in FAIRFIELD county and GABRIEL'S in RICHLANDcounty. both LUKE RAWLS, SR. & GABRIEL RAWLS {Brothers} would move to ROBERTSON county, TENNESSEE about 1796 where LUKE died circa JULY 1800. LUKE RAWLS, JR. would move to FRANKLIN county, ILLINOIS about 1822 dieing there about 1838. GABRIEL RAWLS then moved to CATAHOULA parish, LOUISIANA where he died there about 27th of December 1819 not long after his son JOHN RAWLS who died 6 October 1819. GABRIEL'S son's LUKE RAWLS & SILAS RAWLS, SR. moved from SUMNER & SMITH counties, TENNESSEE about 1805 with LUKE RAWLS going to FRANKLIN county, MISSISSIPPI and SILAS RAWLS, SR. {MY LINE} moving to JEFFERSON county, MISSISSIPPI about 1805. LUKE RAWLS died in FRANKLIN county, MISSISSIPPI or LAFAYETTE county, ARKANSAS. SILASRAWLS, SR. died in CLARK county, ARKANSAS. SILAS RAWLS, SR'S son DANIEL RAWLS left LAFAYETTE county, ARKANSAS in 1831 moving to ST. MARY parish, LOUISIANA. Woud like to share info. on the RAWLS of the following counties: NANSEMONDCOUNTY, VIRGINIA NORTHAMPTON & JOHNSTON COUNTIES, NORTH CAROLINA CRAVEN, CAMDEN, FAIRFIELD, RICHLAND & ORANGEBURG COUNTIES, SOUTH CAROLINA.
