The obituary of Nora Lee Ralph, widow of Elbert Ralph, of Goodlettsville is in today's Tennessean. http://tennessean.com/
On the 1830 marriage bond, her name looks like Rainy. The 1850 census lists her name as Anna In 1860, her name appears as Hainy By 1870 the census lists her name as Serena Her 1875 tombstone shows her name as Arrene And her great-granddaughter born in 1903 was named Arena. Her surname was STANLEY, and she married James BRUCE on 1 September 1830 in Sumner County. And that is all I know about her. If anyone is researching a Stanley family that was in Sumner County by 1830, I would surely appreciate hearing from you. Joyce

Dear Bill, You wrote:> Per the Reconstructed 1810 census, no Robert Brown found in Sumner Co. but: > Robert Brown Davidson Co. 1811 tax list. Capt Williamsonâs Company > Robert Brown entered Sumner County About 1812 coming from Caswell County, North Carolina thus missing the 1810 Census. This was one of the first land purchases he made after arriving in Sumner. His father Leonard Brown had already been in Sumner County about 11 years at the signing of this land deed in February of 1813. Thanks to both yourself and Ronald for the good response to my question. Lowell WBLanders@aol.com wrote: > > Ron, > You are up early or up late? Ron, You are up early or up late? If you don’t mind, I will expand on the identification of the subjects of this land transaction. >Deed, 4 Feb 1813, PETER LOONEY to ROBERT BROWN, for $182.50, a tract on Caney Fork of Drakes Creek, being 182 1/2 Acres. Wit: JOHN MOODY J. D. LOONEY< This Peter Looney could be either of the cousins, Peter 3, b.c. 1855, son of Absalom two, often identified in Sumner County on deeds and as a stock mark, as you indicate, as Peter (H) for his wife’s maiden name, Harmon..or... Peter 3, b. Oct 1, 1860, the only son of Peter 2 who died young. As you indicate, this Peter took “P” from his first wife’s maiden name Pitman to distinguish him from his cousin Peter H. Peter (P) was also indexed in Sumner Co. records as Captian. Both men signed the Cumberland Pact in 1780 and both were awarded land. “Reconstructed 1810 Tennessee Census”, by Charles Sherrill names Peter Looney on the Sumner Co. 1810 tax list, Capt. Edwards’ company and two listings for Peter Looney Sumner Co. elected to Legislature 1811 House Journal, p.4. Per Tilton’s manuscript, Absalom 2, part 4, p 15: An early document that applied to Peter Looney (H) of Sumner is land record 1313 in the State Library at Raleigh, N.C., concerning entry 476, 7 June 1785, for 640 acres on the E branch of Drake’s Creek on north side of Cumberland River in Davidson Co.;...” Per the Reconstructed 1810 census, no Robert Brown found in Sumner Co. but: Robert Brown Davidson Co. 1811 tax list. Capt Williamson’s Company There are two John Moodys on Sumner Co. 1810 tax list in Capt Alderson’s company and Capt Bradley’s company. J.D. Looney may be Dr. Jonathan Davis Looney, son of Peter (H) Looney. Jonathan Davis would have only been age 17 in 1813 as he was born January 23, 1796. Dr. Jonathan Davis Looney remained in Sumner county and practiced medicine there for a time. I have a copy of a portion of his accounts register. Jonathan (3), brother of Peter (H) Looney, also signed the Cumberland Pact in 1780. Mr. Sherrill does not show a Jonathan Looney in the reconstructed census. Nor is there a record of this Jonathan having a middle initial in his name. Jonathan moved on to Lincoln Co. TN. It is likely the witness, J.D. Looney was Dr. Jonathan Davis Looney, barely age 17 in 1813. As Ron wrote, Peter (P) changed his name to Luna. His descendants still use the Luna spelling today. Lowell, if you can scan the entire deed and send it to me as an attachment I would surely like to take a closer look. Or, smail a copy. I descend from Absalom (3), Absalom (2) but have interest in the entire clan as I have another unattached Looney line that wants a connection to Robert (1) and Elizabeth. Bill Landers Cape Cod, MA

The Peter(3) Looney is known as Peter"H" Looney because his wife was Rachel HARMON thus the "H" to distinguish him from his cousin Peter who later changed the spelling of his last name to LUNA. His father was Absalom(2) Looney, the brother of my Col. David(2) Looney and Peter "H" was the grandson to Robert(1) Looney. I don't have any J.D. Looney but he probably was related to Peter "H" Looney that lived in Cottontown, Sumner Co., TN next door to my Rices.
