Hello, The recent query regarding Fergusons in Sumner Co. prompted me to inquire about my own Fergusons, and wonder if there is a connection. Catherine "Caty" GILMORE married William FERGUSON 28 Oct 1793 in Albemarle Co., VA. Three of her sisters and perhaps two brothers moved to Sumner Co. Elizabeth GILMORE married John WEATHERRED, Mary GILMORE married John TOOLEY, and Frances GILMORE married Thomas MEADOR, and they all moved to Sumner Co. I thought Catherine and William Ferguson moved to an area of Barren Co., KY that later became Allen Co., KY, but apparently they lived in Sumner Co., TN for a while. Here is an obituary of their daughter, Frances "Fannie" FERGUSON SPILMAN [my ancestor], and it indicates she moved from Albemarle Co. to Sumner Co. They don't show up in the KY records until around 1810. OBITUARY FOR FRANCES G. SPILMAN, TENNESSEE BAPTIST, May 21, 1859 FRANCES G. SPILMAN Died in Hickory County, MO February 22, 1859 of liver complaint, Frances G. Spilman, daughter of William and Catherine Ferguson and consort of Thomas Spilman, aged about sixty-one years. Sister Spilman was born in Albemarle County Virginia, June 30, 1798, removed to Sumner County Tennessee in 1807 and to Warren Co. [now Allen], KY in 1810, married November 23, 1817, united with the Bethlehem Church of United Baptists in February 1818, emigrated to MO in the fall of 1853, and shortly after united with the Pleasant Grove Church the United Baptists, of which she remained a member until her death. . . . I don't know who William FERGUSON's parents were, but he may have been the son of a Daniel FERGUSON. I strongly believe that he had a brother named Daniel, because William and Daniel witnessed the marriage of Frances GILMORE and Thomas MEADOR. Daniel Ferguson married Elizabeth THOMAS in Albemarle, and either they moved to Nelson Co., VA, or the county line changed and it became Nelson Co. If anyone has any information on any of these folks, I'd love to know about it. Thank you, and have a good day. Warm regards, Sharon Clark Fort Worth, TX clarksha@swbell.net

Anyone on the list working on the Henson/Hinson families of Sumner Co., TN??? I am particularly interested in one William H. Henson who had a wife named Elizabeth, and sons named Josiah, Thomas, William, Joseph Littleton and more.. William H. Henson died there on Trammell Creek in Nov. of 1816. I cannot find out what became of Elizabeth after he died, she lived on the land for awhile, as she was awarded part of it in the probate. But then, the sons took over and sold it all, so did she remarry or did she pass away? I do not find a probate for her. And I do not find her on the tax lists or on the 1820 census there. Please help if you can.....Thank you, Jeanette Henson McClure.

I thought I would try posting another querry in regard to Fergusons of Sumner County. I am searching Anderson, James, Greenbury, Mary and Pheby Ferguson. Allied family to the Fergusons are the Barnards of Sumner County. I am especially looking for a Luke and Agnes Barnard who were probably born in the 1760's era and lived in the Mitchellville area near the KY border. Any help would be appreciated.
Thank all of you so much for your replies. I was inundated with answers, so I guess it's nothing especially wrong with the mail....just less interest right now. Maybe our national problems are taking the front seat. Patricia
I am searching for information on Frederick Mays/Mayes and James Mays/Mayes as listed in the 1830 Sumner Co. TN Census. Their census numbers are adjacent to Denning and Hunter.
Please reply so that I can see if I am able to receive mail from this list. Patricia
