Asa is an older brother of my gggrandfather John Lewis Kepley. I've been working on this family for years and have quite a bit. I've never heard anything about a possible Native American connection. Kepley is a German name, and we can positively trace our line back to our immigrant ancestor, Devault Kepley. George had two siblings that I know of. There was a brother named Johnson who stayed in this area, and a sister named Mary who I know nothing about. I also have nothing on George's descendants. Feel free to email me directly if you like. His parents Asa and Eliza KEPLEY were also born in TN.They lived in Sumner County. By 1894 George W. KEPLEY was living in Texas. He married Rosa M HESS in Ellis Texas on June 26, 1894 but she was born in TN and her parents were born in TN so perhaps they met there. I know nothing of Rosa's parents or heritage. George and Rosa were my great grandparents. There is a strong tradition in this Kepley family that they were mostly native american esp George W. Kepley. There is no documentation I can find, but then I was told by my Aunt they farmed and lived as white and the story goes they did not want to be known as indian to the government.

I used the 1900 census because you said they married in 1891 and the 1890 census would have missed them and since there is no 1890 census to view doesn't have Tennessee to view we are out of luck with finding them. I looked with the names F. E. Brewer, Neely Brewer, Nancy Brewer, and Nannie Brewer and could find none of these. I did find those below that appearred in the 1900 census...could your 'Neely' Culbreath have been a nickname which was used instead of a first name? I couldn't find a F. El Brewer any place in TN...) I am looking for parents of William Carlton Cummings, 19 Feb 1882, Sumner Co., TN - 11 June 1961, Nashville, TN, burial Woodlawn Cemetery, Nashville, TN. He married, no date or place, Ethel Ann Cunningham, 18 Jun 1887, Warren Co., TN - 16 Nov 1972, Nashville, TN, burial Woodlawn Cemetery, Nashville, TN, d/o Greenberry Alexander and Jennie L. Lane Cunningham, both buried in Riverside Cemetery, McMinnville, TN according to obituaries. William Alfred (paper incorrectly typed Albert), the 9 year old son of Mr. W.C. and Mrs. Ethel Cummings, died last Sunday night at their home in Nashville. The remains were brought here on the noon train Tuesday and interment took place in the family lot in Riverside Cemetery. Mrs. Cummings was formerly Miss Ethel Cunningham, a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Green Cunningham, and lived in McMinnville during her girlhood days. McMinnville newspaper.
